It makes life so awkward, but I find I cannot be out in between 3 o'clock and about half past 5 in the afternoon. It just makes me feel anxious. In between 3 and half past, all the kids are coming out of school all at the same time, and there are 2 primary schools and 1 secondary school in my town, and there are traffic queues everywhere, you can't get across the road, there are little kids running into you, there are big kids hanging around the town in groups, and I just hate being out at that time. I like to be indoors and out of the way.

And as for the 5 o'clock rush hour (when a lot of people are coming out from work), this is a little easier for me since there aren't loads of kids about, but the roads are even more busy, especially on the roundabouts. So that is why I like to avoid bus journeys between half past 3 and 5 o'clock. After then it calms down a bit (depending on where you live, but where I live it's OK by then). I just get stressed out, and I like to avoid being out at those times if I can help it. I have a friend who works from 9 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon, and so she avoids the rush hour (usually kids are in school by quarter to 9, and the traffic doesn't seem as busy in the morning as it does in the afternoon). I would like to finish somewhat before 3, or somewhat after 6 when I get a job.

I do have an anxiety disorder, and also some sort of an Agoraphobia thing because I find walking out in the street and crossing roads difficult anyway, so I like to avoid the rush hour if I can. Anyone else relate?

Yeah, I hate crowds but if work is done I'm willing to go through rush hour to get home. I do detest it though.

Yes! I can definitely relate. I work at a desk job so my hours are supposed to be 8-5 but I worked it out with my management that I can work either 7-4 or 9-6 which is much better for me.

I can't be out between 2:30 and 5:30 PM because of the high school students who are walking home from school and also the older elementary school students. I have very unpleasant memories of my last three years in elementary school and unpleasant memories about being in high school and looking at those kids only brings back those memories. If my peers would have given me more respect during that time of my life, I wouldn't have any problems with those kids. The worse part is when they walk past my neighbourhood.

I prefer to avoid rush hours and do so when I can. I take trains to and from work and would scarcely contemplate driving in the city in peak hour(s).

I don't like going out during rush hour only because I'm impatient. When I need to go somewhere I want to do my errands ASAP. Others get in my way mostly during rush hour.

Oh Lord. I have a job that allows me to avoid rush hour and on the rare occasion that I get caught up in it, I sit there and think, no wonder people are crazy mean. I shudder to think of having to sit in a cubicle for 8 hours and then go out into that hell.

I avoid it like the plague. I have a job with flexible working hours whereby I can start my working day any time between 7 am and 10 am and can finish at 3 pm at the earliest. I travel to work by train which takes about 90 minutes. I choose to leave the house at 6 am because the trains and the city in general are mcuh quieter and causes me much less anxiety and prevents me from becoming too stimulated.

I usually finish before 4pm so that I can miss the evening rush hour and aim for trains that I know have a lot of carriages so as to be less crowded. I then put the iPod on and get my kindle out and get lost for 90 minutes, but if there are delays and the trains are rammed then I have a lot of difficulty.

On Monday the trains were a mess and instead of hanging around for an hour to get on a packed train I opted for the bus. It may have taken three times longer to get home but it was less busy and much easier than standing shoulder to shoulder like cattle on a train.

Does anyone else go for a less convenient option at rush hour (when it can't be avoided) just to avoid the rush and masses of people, or is it just me?

i'm riding my bicycle to work most of the time, so at least I can avoid rush hour in the trains and buses.

That is, I don't really mind rush hour as long as I'm not stuck on the street. Rush hour in the train is far from comfortable but my head just goes into Autopilot so that makes it bearable.

When I go shopping, I either do it in the late morning or late in the evening, right before closing time. In the early morning, the stores are packed with retirees and stay-at-home parents. And in the afternoon, the working populace stampedes through the stores. I hate to be out shopping during those times.

I try to avoid it in my area. I always avoid it because I don't drive often. Plus I leave during the day and not early in the morning or early evening when it's rush hour when I have to go somewhere. I hated it more as a kid but I am more patient about it now but I still prefer to not be stuck in it. Here is something else I hate, when trains stop on the tracks and they go across the road where the tracks cross and they hold up traffic, I wish they do it off the road and they do it during rush hour I hear and that is even worse. I have seem cars go the other way to go around the train since there is a bridge that allows you to go under the train goes across and still go the same direction you want to go. I do the same too when I get the chance when cars in front of me move because they also got impatient and didn't want to wait any longer. Someone once said on the bus that trains stopping on the tracks across the road should be illegal. I agree. the longest wait ever had been 45 minutes and it sure makes the bus be late. It makes it look like rush hour because traffic gets backed up but people always get impatient and go the other way to get around the train so it doesn't get that backed up. But on the bus you don't really have a choice unless you aren't that far from your stop so you wouldn't mind walking a few more blocks so people get off the bus and walk and there are stairs that go over the tracks and if you don't mind putting yourself in a unsafe situation when it's dark out.

But that train has made me late to work a few times but luckily I don't get in trouble for it, especially a stop light that was slow to turning green so it was always backed up at that intersection. But I think they fixed it because it doesn't take too long for it to turn green anymore. If my boss had the rule enforced about me being late to work and anything was hardly ever a reason for me to be late, I would have probably left a bus early or two and then be super early to work which be a pain for me because I always had to be prepared for things that don't happen often that would make me be late for work.

how i hate taking the bus at rush hour.
i dont mind standing on the bus, but it seems like torture to stand so close to so many people on your left and right and behind you and in front of you. i feel my space and privacy is violeted. i want to scream and hit and throw my head against the bus's window. i groan and clench my fists, and no one notices.
i hate sitting next to another person on the bus, especially when the other person's cellular phones rings and he/she goes for the phone and elbow me in the process. the feeling of someone's elbow touching my ribs makes me want to punch that person in the face.
i almost jump out of my skin in the supermarket when someone's hand or shoulder rub against me in a narrow aisle. i want to scream and throw things.
i hate walking in a very crowded street. i try taking the side streets.

I hate it too.

I have to go to work at 8.45am and return at 5pm. The journey takes 15 minutes. I walk. Every time a pedestrian or motorist gets in my way, I feel angry and resentful. When I see people in the distance who may block my way, I see pig-ignorant villains and I start to prepare for a fight with them, though they usually aren't a problem by the time I've got near to them. I usually feel surprised if they step aside to let me pass. I feel as if I have a right to do the journey without any obstruction. It's beneath me to stand at bus stops in queues. I break tons of traffic regulations because I feel my rights are violated so why should I care. The way so many motorists drive straight onto the pedestrian crossing and block it when it's our turn to cross, even when it's horrible weather, makes me want to punch them.

So I'd be better off out of it. I'm lucky that I only have to spend half an hour a day in it.

I don't try to avoid the rush hour because I find the streets here busy enough at all times to make things difficult.

If i can i will wait until rush hour is over when i want to run for example. I go out at times where others don't. I love the rain for this reason. When it rains it seems like people disapear. I have a much higher tolerance for walking in the rain then most people do, its ridiculous to run for every tiny drop if you ask me. This is why i love the night as well, its so empty.
