I've noticed that a lot aspies/auties are fans of cartoons and animation, more so than most people. I find they're really good escapes from the real world, so I tend to watch them a lot. Anime seems to be the preferred type of animation, although I'm more into traditional animation and 90s cartoons. Anybody else here love cartoons? If so, why, and in what way does it improve your life?

I've always loved cartoons and animation but I think it's because I respond to things visually. Sometimes I pay only a little attention to the story line and concentrate on the visuals. I'll be watching SpongeBob and concentrate on the brushstrokes in the background. I also love the backgrounds in Samurai Jack.

I am in my 50s and still like cartoons. Is there a group therapy for this? Among my favorites are Wiley Coyote/Road Runner, Pink Panther, The Tasmanian Devil, Pepe Le Phew, Bugs Bunny, and Tweety. I also like Marine Boy, the original Speed Racer, and a number of others. I am female, but have a younger brother who was into Speed Racer, so that's how I came to watch it. The main characters are nice. There was another one he got me interested in. I think it was called Star Blazers, but I'm not sure. I am out of the loop on cartoons though, as I haven't watched much TV, except for DVDs and videos for the past 6 years. Where I currently live the mountains block all the broadcast signals, and until recently, I didn't have money for cable or satelite service. There is no point in getting either right now because my TV died about a year ago, so now I can't even watch my DVDs and videos. Bummer! :( In the warm months I occasionally watch TV when I visit my parents at their summer home, which is not far from here, but I am not a really social person, so I don't go over for visits very often. I will eventually get a new TV, but first I need to have someone come and install cable I-net for my computer. Right now I am still using dial-up, but the place is a mess and I don't want service people coming over until I can clean it up. Well, one of these days, I will join the 21st century. :D

As a mature-aged adult in my fifties ... I really enjoy the Miyazaki anime films, such as Princess Mononoke, Nausicaa, Laputa, Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service, Totaro, etc.

Ah yes indeed. I have a one heck of a liking for Digimon, Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Card Captors. It kinda moved on a bit with the likes of Family Guy, American Dad etc. And oddly have an unusual liking for obscure anime such as Excel Saga... :?

I've always loved Thundercats and I like the new version of it. I've seen a bit of Trigun and Cowboy Bebop and I used to watch Digimon and Pokemon. Has anyone here seen Broken Saints?

I've always loved cartoons and always will. Two of my earliest and biggest special interests were Garfield and Pink Panther, which I still love. I also greatly enjoyed Tom & Jerry and Popeye as a kid (and now). For more modern cartoon special interests, I have Ed, Edd n Eddy and SpongeBob. Milder interest modern cartoons would be Danny Phantom, season 1 of My Life as a Teenage Robot, and early seasons of Fairly OddParents.

I draw my own cartoon characters as a hobby, and animation just fascinates and amazes me. The amount of time and effort that goes into making each drawing painstakingly similar to the previous drawing is awe-inspiring. I learned how to draw advanced poses for my own characters after practice drawing modern cartoon characters as a teenager. Specifically, I learned how to draw hands in an advanced way from all my Ed, Edd n Eddy drawing practice. I've always been amazed by voice acting, too, and I would love to get to do a voice acting gig someday.

^ Suggest that as adults we might be less likely (than NTs) to phase out watching cartoons in some attempt to grow up.

I have liked quite a few cartoons as an adult, without really being "obsessed" in the way someone might describe say an anime fan. There are some really great cartoons (and animations) though!

Hey, adults can watch cartoons. Aspies have the sense to continue watching their awesomeness because we're not as bothered about what people think of us. It's a compliment.

I enjoy them more so than all the same old cop dramas they have on tv nowadays(except for the Mentalist). Favorite shows growing up were Ed Edd n Eddy and Spongebob. Still watch anime from time to time on youtube or whatever else has them, most recently Excel Saga and now I'e found Ikki Tousen. The only non anime or cartoon I've truly enjoyed has been Lost.

I'm not a big fan of cartoons, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE any kind of corny teen show or teen movie. I am well past the age where I should be watching these

Spongebob is my special interest. It's very embarrassing but I just can't help it. Everything about the show just makes me happy.
I think it's because Spongebob himself is an adult who is very childlike - which I can relate to. I like the fact that he's so good-hearted and incapable of malace. There so much evil (Plankton), greed (Mr Krabs) and asshattery (Squidward) around him, but his innocence remains intact and he always comes out on top.

It depends on what the cartoons are about. I've never liked cartoons about people. Lion King was my obsession for years but I had already been intrested in animals. Most so called Lion King fans say Lion King got them intrested in animation and they are pursuing animation degrees. I could never understand why anyone would want to be an animator but then maybe there are weird people out there who like being told what to do. Seeing how most people have a herd mentality, it seems very plausable.

I could just never get into animae simply for the fact it was animae like many weeaboos seem to do. There had to be a story I could get into and most animes seem to just be copies of each other and about horomone crazed teenagers who are supposed to protect the world but at the same time just want to get into the boys' pants. I liked Sailor Moon at first because I could really relate to her in the first eppisode, but when they revealed her true colors as a ditzy slut, I lost intrest. Finding out that the animal characters weren't really cats or horses but people who had just been turned into that form, killed it for me too. The only animes I actualy like Chi's Sweet Home, Sonic X and Jungle Emperor Leo 2009.

But anyway for me to like a cartoon, it has to not focus so much on people and animals in it must actualy be able to talk at one point...and actualy be an animal. The animal "narrating" such as Spirit: Stallion of the Cimeron dosen't count.

I have been an Anime' fan since 1981 when I saw Starblazers run on Cable TV here in the US. Decades later & I still love watching animated shows that tackle serious ethical issues, etc. in unique ways. And I am becoming more interested in Japanese culture as well..

Sincerely,
Matthew

Gargoyles has been and always will be my favorite animated series of all time. In fact, I just recently watched them all again from start to finish. Currently I'm really digging the new Thundercats cartoon. It does give me that comforting sense of escaping reality when I watch them.
