Where do you go to recharge? (Or what do you do?)

In the "old" days I could go to the public library to find some real quiet space so I could zone out by myself in a darker corner somewhere and recharge my burnt out social batteries with total focus on a book or something. My local library these days, however, wants to be "everyone's living room" and it's a madhouse now.

Problem is, there is nowhere in my apartment that's quiet or where I can single-focus for awhile. The park isn't quiet. And so on. So I'm stuck never totally healed of the social assault of living in a busy NT world.

So where should I go to recharge? Where do you go? Or, if you don't have a good place to go either, what do you do to try and make the bad or pathetic space you can find a little more tolerable to recharge/single-focus for awhile?

I just go home, and stay until I need to step outside again.

I sadly don't really have a reliable place that I can always use.

But I suppose anywhere where there's not going to be disruptions, and people can't (or are not likely to) hear me if I cry or even scream.

I also use music to help me. Do you guys have any calming or happy music? It's always a great way to change moods.
In class we're not allowed mp3-players, but they make an exception for me because if I'm feeling panicky, the only way to help without taking me out of the room is for me to drown out everything with some music.

I have nowhere quiet. The noise is beyond the capability of earphones and music to drown it out. All I can do is take various drugs, occasionally opting to knock myself out completely (chemically), when I have the rare luxury.

It does nothing to "recharge" me. I have been running on dead batteries for years.

Wow, exactly the same thing happened to me. The old central library in my city was very nice for me, there were little nooks/crannies/alcoves where you could retreat and sit down with a book, and not be bothered by anyone. In 2007, however, the central library moved to a different location and became what they call a 'mediatheque': the seats and tables are positioned in such a way that you're always in each other's face. The library says that this was done to 'improve the social experience'. There is NO SILENCE there now. Everyone is always talking and chatting, you can't read a book there anymore, you have to borrow it and take it home.

It's very, very autistic-unfriendly, and I rarely say that about anything.

I live alone. That pretty much cuts it.
