So, I've been wondering for some time, does anyone else here talk to themselves, particularly in the shower? I guess I do it mostly in the shower, because that's one of the few places I'm alone, but I tend to rehearse conversations I'm going to have or replay/rework conversations that I've already had when I'm in the shower. Sometimes I get so caught up, the water turns cold before I even get a chance to start washing my hair or anything. Is this common for individuals on the spectrum, or am I just really strange? I mean, I don't hallucinate or actually see people standing in front of me, any images that I do see( which is rare) are all in my head. Sometimes I do it when I'm driving too, but I generally only do it when I'm alone. If I do it otherwise, it all has to be in my head. But, when I do do it, it's generally done without me realizing I'm even doing it, until about halfway through the conversation. So, is this common?

I do this all the time in the shower. Rehearsing, practicing facial expressions, "fixing" past conversations I've had to myself.
Glad to know I'm not the only one.

I used to talk to myself in the shower a lot, since that was one of the few times I was alone. Now I talk to myself almost all the time, because I'm usually alone (I live alone) about almost everything. I think it's a form of stimming and processing my thoughts.

Not out loud, but I tend to in my head, often to run "simulations" of social interactions in the hopes of being better prepared.

I do very often, I don't think a day goes by that I don't talk to myself, and yes it's most always out loud but sometimes in my head if other people are around, I've always called it vocal doodling lol.

Allot of times it's me replaying a conversation over, or having a conversation that I didn't have but wish I did, or about something that I read, sometimes it's shear nonsense and will be something like me hosting a infomercial about the shampoo I'm using, or a cooking show about the dinner I'm making.

Also what is in that link that TheDarkMage posted is something that I do allot too.

Does anyone else ever do this is different accents?

This is somewhat embarrassing for me to talk about, no one out side of my husband knows about me doing this, and I always wondered why I do it, I guess maybe now I do.

I talk as well to myself. All though it's more...er roleplay. Like a child would use a bathtub for the ocean. I do the same, like the shower can be rain or something. Yeah that sounds weird. I'm going to shut up now.

When I'm in the shower, I tend to think of excuses for when people remind me that I'm behind on schedule for something.
Interestingly, I think of many of those excuses in English, which is not my native language at all.

I believe this is true for most people in the world. Well, those who have access to showers, which I'm sure is not everyone.
There must have been a name for it, but I've forgotten. Basically, it means you suddenly analyse the situation and come up with what to say or do when it's too late, in a peaceful setting.
"That was a bit silly. I should have said - oh wow, why didn't I think of that while I was having the actual discussion?"

Something I also like to do is make waves. My shower produces slightly more water than it can handle, so over the course of a few minutes, the 'reservoir' in which I stand fills up with water. Then I kick it around a bit, and the water smashes into the walls like a tsunami. Then it comes back, obviously, and crashes into the wall on the other side.
For a few years, I usually pretended to be a fountain by holding my hands above my head.

Me too. Practicing conversations, which usually turns into practicing arguments. Or should I say seeing where things might (or most likely will) turn in to arguments and stress, and trying to figure out how to avoid it. Don't know if I explained it well, but basically - I shout a lot.

Yeah, I do the scenarios thing a lot too.

I've never done it in different accents though. I think that would feel a lot like pretend play, something I've never really been comfortable doing. It sounds interesting though.

Apparently a lot of us do it. Don't be embarrassed. :)

I never talk out loud to myself. All my "talking" to myself is done silently in my head.

A lot of people do talk to themselves though.

While I don't do it, I don't find it weird at all. It sounds like a pretty good way to pass time during showering, plus the practice is always useful.

I sing In the shower which is not that weird sure. However I talk to myself out loud every opportunity I get especially In the car. Thank god for the invention of Bluetooth or people would think I was insane. I need to do it to practice what to say and work out in my head where other people are coming from. I absolutely love solitude and spend time alOne talking to myself constantly. If I can't get enough time alone I will go for long night walks away from other
People. It is very embarrassing when u get caught. I think talking to myself is necessary and very helpful for my social functioning.

Yes, I very often talk to myself in the shower. I talk a lot to myself in general.
