Is anyone else unable to wear contact lenses due to sensory issues? I have such a high level of tactile defensiveness that when the optometrist tried to fit me with contacts I ran out of the chair. I tried putting on the lenses myself, but was unable to do so. Has anyone with this problem been able to overcome it? I can't even put on mascara or eye shadow because I don't want anything coming within a foot of my eyes (other than my glasses!)

I still wear glasses and will NEVER seriously consider getting contacts. I HATE the very idea of putting things into my eyes, things that'll just sit there and be there all day. Noooooooo!! !!

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

The first time I fitted contacts it was terrible. It hurt so bad and I couldn't open my eye to get it out. Tears flooded for what seemed an eternity. The lady finally got them out and put some drops in my eye to get the irritation to settle down, and then after several more attempts I finally was able to put them in. I actually can't stand wearing them, however I need them because I have a degenerative eye condition that requires wearing contacts much of the time to halt the progression of the condition. I did get used to them but they are never entirely comfortable. I also have a terrible tendency to rub my eyes due to allergies, so it makes it more difficult to wear them. But, I had to desensitize myself to them and that took a long time. But if you don't need them then you should simply wear glasses. I know when I was younger I had a hard time wearing even regular sunglasses but again, it took a lot of times to wear them before I got used to them sitting on my nose and against my ears which was very uncomfortable for me.

I can't stand anything touching my eye. If I get an eyelash or a speck in my eye I'll spend ten minutes pulling my eye open in front of a mirror trying to fish it out with a tiny piece of tissue. I can wear eye makeup, eyeliner on the waterline, and even false lashes, but there is no way I could do contacts and I know that. I'd love some colored nonprescription ones but I know it's useless so I'm not even wasting the money to try it. I have glasses for distance and glasses for reading and up close work but I don't wear glasses for middle vision so prescription contacts for me wouldn't work even if I could wear them.

I wear contacts most of the time. My glasses are so thick they make me look 20 years older. Plus, my glasses have never fit right even as a teenager. I've had numerous problems with the contacts over the years but I still prefer them to my thick, thick glasses.

I honestly think I look prettier without my glasses, but I have really sensitive eyes... So, yeah. I don't wear them.

I'd get contacts if my vision was bad enough to force me to wear corrective-lenses while in public. Fortunately my vision isn't that bad, and I usually only wear my glasses while at home doing certain things. I drive around town all the time with no corrective lenses in whatsoever. lol

I'm aware that glasses are much more convenient and hassle-free than contact lenses, so people often sacrifice that in exchange for their good-looks I guess.

Your problem is common at the beginning.
The first few times I tried to put contacts on I couldn't because I couldn't help but close my eyes.
After some excercise (after wasging my hands I started touching lightly my eyes my the finger) I don't have this problem anymore.

I tried getting contacts back in high school, it took too long and annoyed me so much. Glasses are just so much easier to remove anyway.

No, I didn't have any sensory issues with contacts.

I wore them when I was in school. I did have a problem getting them in in the morning, as my eyes are always covered in a large amount of mucus after I wake up. It would get under the lens and either prevent it from adhering to my eye or block my vision. So I started putting my regular (not approved for overnight use) contacts in on Sunday night and wearing them until Friday night, then wearing glasses on the weekend. Of course, I got an infection. After a long scolding by the optometrist, I had to wear glasses until the infection was defeated. I then wore monthly lenses for the rest of the time I was in school.

After I finished school I started wearing glasses all the time because they're so much more convenient.
