I'm an educator. I'm also an Aspie. I'm just curious if there are others on the spectrum who work with kids.

I'm also curious about those with AS who have had older mentors in school who were on the spectrum.

Did they help you? Was having someone who was just like you...did it make life a little less stressful in the school?

Thoughts, please?

Although I am not on the spectrum, I am a special education teacher. I believe that mentoring is a great idea.

Autistic perception is so different from normative perception that you will understand these kids better far than a person with normative thought processes. I have been in the area of special education for over 16 years. Still, I know 10 times more about autism now that I have a nine year old son on the spectrum.

My therapist wants me to work with 2e autistic kids because it'd be good for them to have me mentor them, and it'd be good for me to do so.

I'm thinking of being an autism/aspergers specialist. Who better to help aspies than an aspie?

Interesting timing- my wife and i just met with our church tonight and it looks like I am going to start mentoring an autistic soon. It makes sense- those of us the spectrum much more in tune to their sensitivities then most NTs are.
