My whole life, practically since the first time I touched one I've always been fond of plants. I kind of understand them, I instinctively know how to care for them and what they need to prosper. I like touching them since I get a kind of "energetic" tingly sensation on my palms and somehow more energised. I also think that it helps them somehow. Just today I was holding in my hands a mango seed that I later sowed. As I held it I felt like any other time I do, a pleasant feeling as if I felt the pulse of it; something that I don't feel whenever holding inert things such as a rock and it is the complete opposite of what I feel whenever I touch another human being, that feels awkward, draining and as if there was a clash of incompatible "energies". But with anything such a seed, plant, tree, moss or even dirt it just feels right, as if it where my peer. With animals the feeling is just strange and I feel like I don't understand them and they don't understand me, I have never encountered an animal that just hated me or anything but they do seem to respond neutrally to my interaction with them and will always prefer anyone else's attention, my brother is a NT and animals alwals respond very fond to him and he always seems to understand what they'd like and need as most people who are fond of animals. We have a Labrador and though I don't get her, whenever I am having an anxiety attack and/or a shut down, if she is in my room with me even if I not even looking at her I do seem to calm more easily. I have never tried to see how I'd do with plants during a shut down and or anxiety attack since I need to be absolutely alone from humans and there is no way to do that where plants are, at least not in here.

Could you get a potted plant for your room?

+1 to you, my internet friend.

In a society where Men tend to forget the deepness of our relation to nature, in a society where we even succeeded thousands years ago to put Man in the center of the World by creating Gods and God, I think there must be balance.

People like you are that balance, it should not even be a "-philia" as long as it is not a perversion.

But we call it "-philia" for Man is aiming at getting more and more independant from nature, which is normal since it's how Human species evolve.

Think about it and learn about your passion, knowledge of the plants is always a good thing.

BTW, I love the trees and feel like they are my friends, those of my garden at least.

That was common sense still 80 years ago (at least where I live) and I learned that from my grand-father who loved the plants.

Is it still common sense today or are we just part of a larger scheme, now?

Have a nice day...

I think I will definitely do that, it certainly is something to think about. It's good to know of people who understand this.

Ettina, I've been thinking about that, I'd love to get an orchid to have in my room, I feel they are like the cats of the plantae kingdom.

I also like to look at plants, grow them and take care of them :) That's pretty common for humans, and I think our affinity for plants and animals was selected for when we became sedentary farmers.

If I was you, I'd buy a pack of orchid seeds for 80 cents, potting soil, plant pots and fertilizer sticks. It's great to watch a plant grow from a seedling, it's cheaper than a potted plant, and you don't risk buying a plant with a parasite infestation (I accidentally bought one that had spider mites last year). I also feel a lot more fond of plants that I've raised myself.

PS: This is what my windowsills look like. My cats love this indoor jungle, and it also serves as a salad bar for them:

The use of -philia as a label for fetishes and sexual deviations is actually a misuse of the word, and I've always hated to see it used in this way. Philia is the Greek word for a non-sexual form of love or friendship. Sexual love would be eros in Greek. This misuse taints perfectly harmless words such as bibliophile (a lover of books), oenophile (a wine aficionado), or anglophile (a person who loves the English culture and language).

I completely agree with you and I hate to have to make explanations when using many words ending in -philia

BTW how do you call that plant in English, kind on an Anglophile here, in Spanish we here call them "malamadre" literally "bad-mother" due to how the plant spreads by shooting plantlets in long stems away from it self.

Those are spider plants :) I have tons of them since they are so easy to propagate, and I hate to see the plantlets go to waste.

Since you have a cat like I do, please be aware some plants and flowers kill cats.

Wow. That's quite interesting. I actually suffer from DendroPHOBIA .... I can't possibly comprehend the idea of being at harmony with a tree. They're terrifying.

Wow that actually makes sense, they can get to look like a very abnormal spider and your remark about not wanting for the plantlets to go to waist, I found it kind of funny since that's the basis for the "malamadre" Spanish name

I am not dendrophobic obviously but I luv to feel terror in a secure way of course, so I've been writing a book a bout trees that makes me feel very frightened in a twilight zone kind of way. I suppose you'd get white hairs and die with an awful expression on your face if you pictured it the way I do.
