Hi everyone :D

This is my first post, I'm pretty new to the site.

I started a new job in Oct 14 to be honest I'm not enjoying it that much and feel very stressed most of the time I spend there (29.5hrs per week). I have noticed that I am fidgeting quite a lot of the time whilst at work, mainly this weird thing I do where put my thumb in between my index and middle finger and kinda rub it... It's really hard to explain lol. I also have ADD (Adhd without hyperactivity) do you guys think this is a stim from the stress at work or the ADD? Or both?

Also I would be really interested in what everyone else's stims are???:)

Welcome. I had to laugh because I was doing that exact stim (thumb between the index and middle finger) when I was reading your post. That's definitely one of my favorites.

Over time I have regulated the typical movements, and modified them into other actions that may not be so perceptible. I adapted my penguin flapping, to shaking my hands, to fanning with my hands or interlocking fingers (hard to describe) - moving hands back and forth. Rocking, swaying and swinging, still endeavour to minimize this, although with head phones these days, it isn't so unordinary. Have converted some movements to shoulder shrugging, and turning my head to the right, although I am not averse to leaving the room if need be. Listening to the same song, and watching the same movie incessantly is still something I do. Observing intently things such as running water, fans and the like, I still do.

I would definitely say that it was a stim-- probably comforting while you are in that stressful environment. I wouldn't worry about it.

My opinion is that stimming is the same action over and over, while fidgeting is a variety of actions with no clear pattern.

Thnaks guys looks like the General consensus is that it's a stim, oh well another one to add to the list lol. I always find it difficult to decide what is from the ADHD,what is from the ASD and of course what is just me :D
