One of my quirks is that I adore lists. I have since I was a kid. I'd make lists of useless, trivial things - long ones. I'd fill notebooks. Every movie I'd seen. Every song I liked. Every dachshund I'd ever met. I eventually had to recognize the pointlessness of it, but I kind of had a little mental fantasy of somehow categorizing my life: like I'd feel more on top of things if I could file away every experience and look back on them later, in a short, simple format (journaling was too time-consuming and complicated and I'd always leave things out).
I recently got a little journal and started filling it. One-page lists, with a title at the top right corner: THINGS I DON'T GET (algebra), FAVORITE SONGS, FAVORITE MOVIES (Crash, Closer, My Life Without Me...), GREAT COMPLIMENTS ("Sometimes, you just radiate." - my ex), SOUND ADVICE, SONG LYRICS (I just want you to know who I am), RECIPES, etc.
And I find it extremely comforting and fun. I seem to have found a part of my childhood Aspie traits that I can reformat into a somewhat-less-consuming, very enjoyable part of my adult life. Anyone else done something similar?
