When you had tantrums (or whatever you call it), did you have people (parents, adults, etc.) sit on you to calm/control you? I did. That's one odd thing I noticed only happened to me. I would get into a rage and I would be forced on the floor and unable to breath. At the time, I wasn't certain on why people did this to me, but I knew it was to control my anger. I thought it was a bit excessive. Is this an Aspie thing?

I have never heard of this being used to calm someone down before.

I thought the post was going to refer to bullying, but this is interesting! And somewhat bizarre.

You mean that you were unable to breathe because they were sitting on you?

I remember being grabbed and held. I remember mom restraining me once when I was 15 when I had a major meltdown. But I was being violent was why.

When I was little a few members of my family would try to sit on me to tease me because I hated when people touched me at all. This would usually get me worked up near a meltdown since they would just keep doing it to get a reaction out of me. However, I've never heard of anyone doing this as a way to stop a meltdown. It's interesting, but I'm very sorry that happened to you.

I don't recall that ever being attempted, but I can only imagine it would have made things worse. As I would have gotten even more overwhelmed and freaked out by the difficulty in breathing.

I'm sorry that happened to you, it sounds abnormal to me.

After the first time anyone did that to me, I would have carried a pin with me, and the next time anyone tried to sit on me, that person would have been jabbed with it!

That's the right way to go about it.

Yes. My parents used to do it. My response was usually to panic and struggle until I was literally too tired to move. Sometimes my stepdad used to yell into my ear to take advantage of sensory sensitivity to stun me. He spent a lot of time trying to break my will.

It was torture--and I don't mean that figuratively, either. Growing up, I learned how to survive torture. I read about it later--about how they teach special forces types how to survive interrogation--and I was using the exact same techniques as a ten-year-old.

I don't remember but I think that would make me more angry.

Yes. When I used to throw a huge tantrum, stomping around, throwing things, my dad would pin e down completely and basically lay on me. I struggled, bit, kicked, spit... it was awful.
