Does anyone else do this? Is it a habit, a stim, or something else? I've always done it (to my memory; I was reprimanded for it in Grade 1), but I think it's getting a lot more frequent because it's starting to give me headaches every day.
Anyone else like this? Anything to do about it? It's voluntary (not a tic) but I never notice I am doing it, and when I do, I can't seem to stop for more than a few seconds.

Hi.
I used to click my teeth (and sometimes still do), but my mom would slap me upside the head when I did it. I switched to pulling spit or air around my mouth, but people stared because if they were close enough they could see or hear. Now, I thwack my tongue back and forth between my molars...it's near-constant, and I'll try to stop, but find myself doing it again in no time. I'm guessing it's a stim or security thing, and it's certainly a lot less attention-drawing than flapping, hey? You could try getting a mouthpiece from your dentist. I had one for awhile until my cat chewed on it. Do you grind them at night , too? Glad to know I'm not the only one!

YES! I used to do this too, and it started in horrible High School. I too am glad to know I'm not the only one.

I used to do it to the songs playing constantly in my head. (Listening to the radio was one of my obsessions then.) Someone noticed it and said something about it to me once, but other than that I got away with it.

I'm so glad you started this post.

Edit: This is interesting, I just noticed that we're all females. :D

I remember up until 10th grade I did this because I thought if I made a sound in my mouth, no one else could hear it. I would just sit while the teacher was doing her lesson and click my teeth. One time she would pointedly look at me and I stopped for a second before thinking...I must be doing something else, since no one can hear the sounds I make in my mouth (I thought the only reason I could hear it was because the sound waves traveled to my ear through my teeth, that it didn't make any noise that others could hear). I just sat there, looking back at her and clicking....it's truly amazing how clueless I was.

I beat out rhythms to myself in my head. It's the habit? stim? I picked up after my parents made me stop sucking my thumb. Although to be honest, it wasn't my parents who made me stop; it was my brother. After all, he was the one who threatened to break my arm if I didn't . . .

I used to just beat them around in a circle, but now I just do rhythms or the ol' OCD thing about doing something until it feels right. Whee!! !

I never did the teeth thing, but I have always done the tongue thing.

Yep, I do all three of these things, although the clicking of teeth is pretty rare now.

I have to click my teeth a certain number of times occasionally - it's not loud, but it's very distracting if I get stuck on it. When I do, I just force myself to stop and think about something else and the urge decreases.

I do it incessantly. Because my teeth are just a wee bit uneven, it can lead to pain, or at least an uncomfortable awareness that I have teeth.

Ha, me too. I don't even really grid them... I just click them together. Not sure why; it's not involuntary or anything. I just do it.

Yeah - I do rhythms sometimes, or songs (it's like different clicks are different tones). But it's past that point now... half the time I'm just... clicking patterns or something. I think I'll ask about it.

Thanks for the replies... good to know it's not just a "weird".

I'm not sure about "clicking" teeth.

Although, I do grind my teeth in time with a song or beat cycling through my head. Is this what your talking about?
I've done this ever since I started school...and now that i'm finished school, I still do it! I do it subconsiously and most of the time never realise i'm doing it unless someone tells me to stop...

or unless my jaw clicks.

If you mean flicking your top set of teeth off your bottom lip - I know all about it!

I used to do it all the time from when I was 9 until I was 16, and I recorded it on cassette as well because I used it as a drum while humming. That's how I got started writing my own music believe it or not. I stopped though once I got my first keyboard, because that's when I realised it sounded shocking!

I've been doing it all the time for years.

I do it for some time recently and it drives me crazy. I can't stand it but I feel an intrinsic compulsion to do it. I take attempts to limit it because I don't want others to hear it while they're close to me but it's hard. I have also two other tics now.

Been doing that for years! Clicking my teeth and spinning, spinning my whole body around. Have worn holes in a great many socks, created thin patches in carpet, and also developed a set of wicked calluses on my feet!
