I never liked shoes. As a young child, I preferred "Indian Moccosins" with leather soles, when I wasn't running around barefooted. I threw a huge fit if I had to wear anything else. Never liked anything between my toes, the rubbing raw of the sensitive skin was most uncomfortable. Plus I never could walk in flip flops right as a youngster. I also liked Birkenstocks since they were practical & comfortable. I didn't care if they came with a label that only lesbians wore them, & straight girls wore cute girly sandals. I still prefer barefoot over any other footwear. However, I have expanded my acquistions for flip flops, athletic shoes, hiking boots, cowboy boots, & sandals (other than Birkenstocks-though they are still my faves).
This is not to say I no longer have sensory issues with shoes. I do! Socks can make it worse if there's seams that rub against my toes or feet. Many times, I have resorted to turning my socks inside out to prevent chafing. When I can, I go around without anything on my feet. I am much happier that way.
