aren't we all just great pretenders?
Even NTs?

I've been socialising to what I see as a high level for someone of my disposition for quite a few years now (since I was a teenager). And I notice that even people, probably not afflicted with aspergers but are maybe a little shy, just imitate other people.
I know a few guys who never really went out until they were about 18 (which is fine, of course) and they used to be very quiet. But all of a sudden they have adopted personalities of people I know who are very social. They copy their mannerisms and even their tone of voice. I find this highly annoying as I believe people should try their hardest to be real and themselves. But who can blame them ey? They just want to fit in like everybody else.

I've noticed this especially as recently everyone I know has gone to university. I find it strange. They go off to university and some of them come back completely different people. It's like all they are doing is imitating and copying other people. Even their accents completely change.

anyway I don't really know what my point is, and it's kind of fuelled by a few beers, but yeah. Just thought I'd share my humble thoughts and ruminations with you guys to see what you think.

Joe

Let me preface this by saying that this reply is fuelled by vodka. And yes, I agree everybody is faking it to a degree, that's how humans learn. That's why people have mentors. I guess the difference lies in the fact that for most people the behaviors become natural after they learn them and for others it's always work.

You're absolutely correct. So much of social interaction revolves around faking and mimicry.
