A decade ago I developed RSI in my arms and hands after doing a typing job for just over a year. I recovered after some occupational therapy and three or four years, but I cannot return to such work due to the risk that it will return. (Not that I ever cared for the job in the first place. :))

Since my Asperger's diagnosis last year, I have wondered if people with Asperger's are more prone to repetitive strain injury (RSI) than the general population, whether due to being so focused they forget to take regular breaks and/or because of something in their physical make-up. After all, many of us do have problems with coordination and muscle strength - I certainly do.

Does anyone know of any studies that have been done on this? Have other people here developed RSI?

I haven't had RSI, but I'm notoriously clumsy and have dislocated my jaw, shoulder, hip, and both my kneecaps about 4 times. I guess that would lead to repetitive strain.

It would be interesting to find a scientific study on that, though.

I've given myself an RSI stimming before.
Now I don't fidget with silly putty anymore, I use theraputty in its place.

I've never personally experienced anything of the sort, but I'm still in young, rocket metabolism, strong bodied american male mode from the neck down. I would have seriously hurt myself during a meltdown by now, if I wasn't practically indestructible. =/

I don't think it qualifies as RSI, but it has happened more than once that I did one type of exercise (either in sports or music) so many times that I had to force myself to stop for an unbearably long time because it was painful.

I have had this injury, and always have to be careful of a relapse. Fly fishing and my art paintings are strong special interests for me. Both activities involve repetitive use and abuse of my right shoulder and elbow. This is where I have had the injuries.
