Autism and confidence training
As mentioned elsewhere, I am currently on the work programme. For anyone who doesn't know, it's for someone who has been unemployed for at least 9 months, (12 if you're over 24) and is focused on getting you back into work. You may be put on courses, such as helping with interviews, CVs, etc.
As part of this, I've been sent on courses designed to help me with job interviews and a load of other stuff.
Last week, I was told I need to go on a 12 week course designed to help me build confidence and I've been told I must go. This is despite being told that there would be no more courses for me. (I had nothing but problems with accessibility and I know it's going to happen again)
My question is - currently waiting for a diagnosis (amongst a load of other diagnoses) for either AS / HFA. Do things like confidence training help people on the spectrum at all?
One problem I have is sensory overload. I am unable to sit in a room with people all having different conversations at all. It's the combination of noise and not being able to work out what people are saying.
My adviser isn't aware that I'm being tested at all. I'm worried that if I say something, she may force me to go on to ESA. ESA is a benefit for people who can't work at all. She has talked me into going on to that before and I've refused. Whilst I should get it, I don't want it. I need to work. I don't want to sit on my bum all day and do nothing.
If they had low confidence in addition to an ASD, it might help that.
