define the referrance of being normal?
Normal- a simple word that everyone in this society wants us to do, be, think or act in a way of being NORMAL!! ! but what is normal anyhow. is it that us aspies on the specturm doing the odd repetious behavior and being sterotypical while friends and family saying that is not a normal way to be. Why define the the definition or normal when half of the world i NOT NORMAL!! !! Why can't the world not be so into perfection of being the ideal person that does not do or say anything wrong but is always right, right wrong i bring this up in the fellow aspie world of ares cause some of us either get taught the skills or repremended for the odd behavior we do.... i find it not ammusing sometimes thougth it seems that we now are coming into a world of perfection it seems......

Kids in primary school used to tell me I was weird and couldn't offer any definition of 'normal' so when I was about 10 I decided to find one for myself. I found a book in my house called 'The Normal Child' - my mum was studying psychology so we had some course texts lying about. I don't remember what was in the book but I remember that I took it to school for silent reading time. I was engrossed and then peeked over the top of the page and saw everyone in the class - including the teacher - staring directly at me and saying nothing. I think I just carried on reading, and later my teacher asked me if my parents were considering sending me to an academically selective high school. I didn't understand at the time how these two events were related but now I can see that bringing an A level psychology text to junior school was probably not 'normal'. The teachers seemed to interpret this as a sign of my academic ability and interest in learning, whereas the other kids probably just thought "what on earth is going on?" and thus labelled me as 'weird' because my interests and behaviours differed significantly from theirs.
The book is probably still at my mum's, maybe I can find it and read it again and see if I get any answers from it.
