Just wondering whether it might be useful to compile a set of info for new members, just covering things that get repeatedly asked and might help people to sort of have a guide?
Maybe explanations of shutdowns, meltdowns, sensory issues, auditory processing, ADD, stimming etc....whatever might be useful.
Do you think this could be useful? If so what topics should it cover? What potential problems are there?

It'd take a lot of time and effort, good luck!

I think it'd be very useful. It would keep the forums from getting hundreds of repeats of the same questions, too, so current users would be less annoyed. I'm guessing that I was in the minority, lurking for two weeks before I started posting, because it seems like nearly every new user posts the standard "should I get diagnosed?" questions.

One thing I think it should address is whether the Aspie Quiz and other online tests are reason to be concerned. There are a lot of people who sign up to post about this and never come back after they start getting answers. Maybe if this information is offered up front, more potential users will do a little more research and fewer people will be misinformed about the subject. Standard definitions/explanations of ASD and common diagnostic criteria/symptoms could be helpful, too.

I think a set of links to reliable sources of information would be even better. No sense rewriting what is already out there on the net.

I think it would be more useful to say the mechanics of the forum. Say how you shouldn't have personal info and the TOS. (of course what you were thinking of is really good too). No idea if it would be possible on here but on some forums, or for example okcupid when you start you get a message. So on here as soon as you join you get an automatic message explaining those.

This thread, asking much the same as yours  - also has several links to other FAQs or information: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt181091.html

As a result of that, Ganondox created a very useful FAQ here but I don't think it's being actively maintained at the moment: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt186115.html

Thanks for the links cornflake, that was sort of what I was thinking. Maybe there is a way to make what Ganondox did permanent and able to add to it a bit?

Why not sent him a PM with your suggestions?
I'd agreed with Ganadox to add further content for him, now that his post editing time has expired - posts can be edited for up to 9999 minutes (almost 7 days) after they've been posted, when they become permanent. Moderators have no restrictions.
