I'm interested to know if anyone else has unusual eating habits, orgoes through food fads/phases of only eating certain foods. I'm not talking about eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia), more about day to day eating habits.

I have always been quite a fussy eater, and I have odd quirks about eating. For example, I hate it if different food types touch each other on the plate; I can't bear having gravy on a meal; I don't mind eating chicken and fish but can't handle the texture of red meat, etc. Oh, and I always eat from 'my' plate - it's a yellow plate and I don't like eating from any other plate if I can help it.

I can't eat liver and fish bones freak me out.

I mostly prefer to eat at home, where the environment is more predictable.

I'm extremely picky about food, mainly due to textural issues. I don't like things that are in between soft and firm (bananas, mushrooms, eggplant for example). I also will not eat any condiments (excluding salt and pepper). Part of me became vegetarian because the texture of meat and eggs was disgusting to me.

I basically eat the same foods every day and have been doing so for probably 10 years. When I was a kid I also did the same thing. I ate nothing but peanut butter sandwiches for every lunch. I now can't stand regular peanut butter and can only eat the salt-free/sugar-free organic kind.

TBH I am sick to death of eating the same things over and over! But I feel so much comfort and control when I stick to my pattern. I also have somewhat of a binge-eating problem and, when I stray from my routine foods, I overeat.

Also, OP, I cannot stand for different foods to touch each other on the plate. I even separate them in the refrigerator. And I also have special bowls, cups and plates for certain foods. For example, I have a brown bowl which I use only for pasta and a black bowl that I use only for salad. It just feels wrong if I don't use these in my house. It's okay if I am eating elsewhere though.

I don't think I have any eating habits. Not unusual ones anyway. Food touching on plates doesn't bother me. I get too hungry to worry about things like that.

I eat pretty much the same thing every day and have done so for the last 20 years or so.

I keep to a very low calorie diet because calorie restriction is the only proven method of increasing life span. I also have my main meal in the morning rather than the evening. The reason for this is that it gives me a reasonable amount of energy thoughout the day. If I eat my main meal in the evening, I run out of energy half way through the day.

My main meals are usually stews and curries with rice, noodles or pasta. Basically stuff that is easy to prepare and can be eaten straight from the saucepan. I don't bother with a mid-day meal and in the evening I usually have a sandwich or two with some fruit.

One of the advantages of living on your own is that no-one complains about your strange habits :D

My weird eating habits are more about lack of convention. Meaning, I don't feel like certain foods are only appropriate at certain times or contexts. People eat breakfast food for dinner, why not dinner for breakfast?

When I was a kid I put ketchup on just about everything.

I eat 7 meals a day at the same times 5 days a week.
6 of the meals are exactly the same thing Ive been eating for more than 1 year.

6:30 AM: 3/4 of a cup of Oatmeal
10:00 AM: One can of Bumble Bee tuna
12:30 PM: One Honey Crisp apple one can of Bumble Bee tuna
3:00 PM: One can of Bumble Bee tuna
5:00 PM: One Honey Crisp apple
7:30 PM: Salad Broccoli and Chicken Breast.
9:30 PM: I find a snack.

Mostly I started this because I got into weightlifting and calisthenics but that only lasted a few months. I keep the same food and eating schedule though.
There are many reasons here are a few: routine, I know what to expect, sameness, unwilling to change, and much more.
Before this I was eating the same thing everyday as well.
Yes I know I'm weird, thank you.

I eat the same foods every day going through usually a half year phase. Like now I’ve eaten French fries and fish sticks for almost a year. I eat them pretty much every day. Luckily I don’t get fat easily. Just to give other examples: Once I ate every day this certain banana chocolate ice cream while watching a certain TV series. Once it was a certain chicken pasta and "Oh man!", if they didn’t have it in the store...

But I am not rigid in the sense that I would have some strict rules. I just like to eat the same food... :) So I don’t dictate what people should offer to me and I don’t pretty much ever refuse to eat what is available, like in the cafeteria at work. As a child I was very sensitive to smell, texture and taste of food and used to throw up my food easily and ate only certain foods. Nowadays I am not a picky eater, but I do like to stick to my natural tendency to sameness and repetition. :D

I eat the same thing for lunch and dinner almost every day: 2 turkey dinosaurs and 4 potato smiley faces. Sometimes I eat 3 turkey airplanes instead of 2 dinosaurs; they taste the same but are different shapes. I know this isn't healthy but I when I find a food that I like, I can eat it over and over again for years without getting sick of it. The supermarket was out of turkey dinosaurs the other week and I wanted to cry, but luckily I was able to get turkey airplanes from a different store :D

P.S. I've been lurking because as far as I know I'm not on the spectrum, I just have a lot of things in common with you all so it's helpful for me to read... but I wanted to answer this one :)

I've always went through food fads. As a kid I would only eat cereal, sandwiches, and spaghetti-o's for about a year, then the next year was cereal, sandwiches, and kraft mac n cheese, until I saw someone spit some mac n cheese out on their plate- now I gag and cannot stand the sight of kraft mac n' cheese, even 13 years later.

I also had this thing where I could not swallow the food if I chewed it in my mouth for too long, because as the texture got mushier it grossed me out and made me gag, so I often had to spit food out, even if I liked the food. This made my parents angry, so I had to hide it, spitting out food in napkins or trashcans or toilets. I still sometimes do this today with foods prone to extra mushiness, such as bread or bananas.

Last year I would always eat raw kale, raw spinach, and pickles. Non-stop. I still ate other things too of course, but I had to have those every day.

I'm obsessed with hamburgers and french fries and have to get them at every restaurant I go to that offers them. If it's breakfast time I will still order from the dinner menu, if it's allowed.

Now I eat some food only because the texture is so interesting to me. I don't really like the taste of eggs or raw mushrooms, but the texture is so interesting that I eat them just to examine it.

I always save the "best" bite for last. For example I always take bites out of a hamburger in a clockwise direction, saving the juicy thick center for the last bite.

As a kid I ate pizza upside down so the cheese would be on my tongue when I took a bite. I thought this helped me taste the cheese better.

Oh and I hate milk in its pure form, and certain types of cheese that seem too "milky". I haven't eaten cereal or drank milk in 10 or so years, because one day I accidentally drank from a glass of really old, warm milk and threw up. I can't get over it.

Oh and now I am obsessed with porter and stout (types of beer). I have tried every single kind in my local BevMo and keep all the bottles for display. I'm not an alcoholic, haha. I just enjoy the rich, chocolaty, malty taste. Other beer is like drinking pee.

I avoid all meat and fish, except for chicken. I'll never ever eat pork or beef.

Considering the special diet my doctor gave to me, I can only eat about 5% of the food types around the world. f**k this.

I eat food like chips and popcorn out of a cereal bowl, without using my hands, pecking it out like a bird or something.

I started the "Adam" diet this week. In the movie, Adam only ate mac & cheese with brocccoli. I went to Safeway and bought so many different kinds of mac & cheese that I feel bad about thinning the store! I spent $130. I actually forgot to get the milk for the dried mac & cheese. That's okay though because I bought enough of the frozen stuff to last till I go back out to the store. I also bought 4 32oz bags of shredded cheddar to make my own mac & cheese. I'd been experimenting with shredded mozzarella but it doesn't work as well as cheddar. Mozzarella doesn't attach itself well to the pasta.

I'm very picky when it comes to food. Sometimes that's because I don't like the taste or because I simply don't want to try something new, but sometimes it's because I don't like the texture. For example, I don't like the texture of tomatoes and nuts.

I hardly ever cook food myself. My boyfriend's good at cooking and he usually cooks the 1 or 2 evenings a week when we hang out. I cook sometimes but I mostly buy microwaveable food. I know that's not really healthy, but it's difficult to change. I mostly eat spaghetti bolognese. I eat that a lot. Also, I always eat the same things for breakfast and if I can't have it I refuse eating breakfast altogether. Things like that.
