I've always had problems with remembering names of famous people. Not sure if that's because I've got problems with names or because I can't be bothered learning about celebrities. Or both.

Yes, I also have problems with them. The least with friends, but it's still an issue.

Sometimes. Like, I'll encounter instances where I can picture a coworker or something, but can't think of their name. Sometimes, some people's names just won't stick in my brain.

I have trouble remember names to go with faces. Part of it is probably due to my mental processing issues, part of it is due to the fact that I am uncomfortable looking into faces/eyes of other people, and, regarding celebrities, I am just not into them, so I never bother to learn about almost all of them.

I thought of this question after reading the best/worst celebrities thread and could picture the actors but for the life of me could not think of their name. I even draw blanks on names of people I have known for years... Its annoying. Remembering someone's name when I first meet them is next to impossible. Like there is some kind of mental block on remembering that info.

I'm so bad with names that I sometimes worry I might forget my own name on day.

I'm actually really good at remembering names of famous people and movies, and cross-referencing those. I'm the one that people will ask who someone is and what they were in. But when it comes to people I've actually met, I am horrible at remembering their names. It took me a couple weeks to remember my best friend's girlfriend's name. And if someone I've just met tells me their name, forget it, it's gone in a matter of seconds.

Yes and also names of places. For example if I'm traveling I would have a hard time remember the names of attractions, streets, and even hotels I stayed at, but I could describe all of the places in detail. I've learned that my memory is greatly improved with association so I've been working on that. As a simple example, if someones name is mike I would visualize them with a pack of Mike & Ike candy in their pocket and the next time I see him it will be much easier for me to remember his name because I've associated him with a familiar object.

I am horrible with names. And faces too. No wonder I am so unpopular!

Interestingly enough, I remember voices pretty well.

Yes, but then I have general memory problems...plus I tend to avoid using names as much as possible just in case I get names wrong (even if I know them very well - e.g. I rarely use my boyfriends name in case I get it wrong...he doesn't know this of course as he may take it the wrong way!).

I forget names all the time, and I don't recognize faces of people I have known for years if they are out of context.

Yes, I have always had problems remembering names - people, places, etc.

It has never improved. There are two new employees in our small company. After a few weeks, I still can't for the life of me remember their names.

Funny, I can remember numbers from decades ago. zip codes, addresses, phone number..
I can also remember faces and places.

On the other hand, when reading, it is common for me to forget words... mostly describing words..

I often forget the names of people I see every day.

I've been looking at getting an android tablet and this thread made me wonder if there is an app that allows you to take a pic of someone and then be able to look up there info by attributes later on. Like age, hair color, location, etc. It might not help with people that can't remember faces but I have almost perfect recall on faces.

I can't remember people's names well until I know them quite well, and I'm very slow to make new friends and to identify new enemies, so in practice I forget the names of most people I'm introduced to, usually within a few moments of being told the name. Surprise, surprise.....I can't remember things I have no direct interest in. Do I care if a complete stranger is called Herbert or Horace?

I don't think it's intrinsically a memory problem. I think it's more to do with focus. What you don't focus on, you probably won't remember. What you have no direct interest in, you won't focus on unless you notice an indirect interest (such as "hey, those people are potential friends at least, and if you never make the effort, you'll make no friends at all, and then where will you be?") and then feel motivated enough to override your natural impulse. The other factor is anxiety, which can make it very hard to focus at all.

Celebrities? I don't care enough to remember their names, usually. Entertainers - if they entertain me well, I tend to remember their names better, though I'm often stuck and can't recall the ones who I thought were pretty good, so it could still take a while. Ditto for names of films and TV shows. Also song writers........as a musician I often perform covers, but I hardly ever credit the writers, even though I really admire their music.....that's downright discourteous of me. But then, I'm too busy making sure I don't screw up the performance.
