I get really nervous, tense and fidgety if I haven't got something in my hands to mess with. If I'm on a computer, for example, I'll grab whatever's in front of me and play with it (like opening and closing a hair clip repeatedly).
For me, its my bracelets. If I'm in public, I'll usually have at least one rubber bracelet with me that I twist and twirl while I'm walking or sitting in class or otherwise. I can't leave the house without them.
I almost had a panic attack one time when we were about get on a plane to leave for vacation once, and I realized I had left my bracelets at home. I had to have my mom take me to the store at our destination and buy me some more, haha

I was wondering who else does something similar to this. I dunno if it's a common aspie thing or not, but still

hey, i have a similar problem, i find its only when im in class though, i get told to stop clicking my pen of doodling quite often. i think from my past experience is mostly for me because of my anxiety, i have nervous energy, i know this is proably the case because i dont feel the need as much at home when im relaxed but in class is a time i am more tense.

maybe its the same whith you, i presume since you said about having a panic attack that you have a problem with anxiety so maybe its underlying nervousness that makes you need to play with things.

Yeah I know this feel all too well. Usually manifests itself in the form of tearing up pieces of metal or plastic.

That happens to me if I'm a room full of people when I'm sitting down...My choice of object is a pen and I panic inside when I don't have something in hand. But if it's not the pen, then it's shaking my leg/thigh along with hand-wringing under the table.

Not really, although I do when I'm walking along in public because otherwise I don't always know where to put my hands. What I mean is, I like to carry a bag or something, although at the same time I do know that bags can sometimes hinder me. But because I've got quite a tall-ish lanky build, I feel awkward with my arms and holding something makes my posture better, which is why I like to keep my handbag over my shoulder even if I don't need it. I can then keep one hand on the strap like I see people doing. I also wish swinging one or both arms when walking has to matter so much, but sadly it does so I try to carry another bag to avoid having to swing my arm.

Silly putty or a pen. Otherwise I take my rings on and off repeatedly or tie knots in my necklace chain. If I do not have anything the stress builds much faster than I can cope with.

I have this problem. If I don't have something in my hands, my hands will start doing whatever they want. A lot of touching thumb to fingers, tapping, fiddling with my glasses, touching my hair, pulling at my beard, rapid opening and closing a fist, knuckle cracking, picking up and putting down objects, involuntary twitches, etc.

I can control it, but only if I concentrate very hard on not moving my hands. I have the most difficulty when someone is talking to me and expecting me to talk back; I cannot concentrate on both conversation and suppression at the same time.

I also have this issue with my feet, but now where oversized shoes to help hide it.
