Hearing every little noise! So if there's a bug in my room (like NOW!) I can't sleep! Also if I sleep with someone and they like having a light on I can't sleep. At my older sisters house I slept over and there was a lamp in the living room (I slept on the couch) and it kept me up ALL NIGHT and yes I mean ALL NIGHT as in I DIDN'T SLEEP A WINK! AT ALL! I would have gotten up and turned it off but it was behind pictures and other delicate items and I didn't want to wake anyone. This past weekend at the hotel I slept with my nephew (he's 5) besides him pushing me out of the bed his parents had a bathroom light left on I didn't bother to turn it off since perhaps "they" like light.

I barely got 2hrs. of sleep!! !! I also HATE screeching such as a fork on a plate. Sometimes my little sister does it just to annoy me. I once asked a professor if she could use different chalk she said no. Besides the social skill issues IMO the sensory issues are a pain to deal with since my family doesn't understand that something would bother me that much. :-)

Light interferes with melatonin production. Melatonin helps us sleep. Some people are more sensitive to the interference than others. It doesn't bother me as much as it does you. However, red light is the exception, so if you or a future child of yours wants a night light, use red. You can even put red night lights in halls and bathrooms, so people can get around without breaking their necks, but also without screwing up their melatonin production.

As for noise, try noise cancelling headphones.

I have to say, you reflect my senses. Once, there was a diversion which sent all the cars from a main road down the mini main road near me. I don't actually lie on that road, but the traffic noise kept me up until 5 am, when I passed out a bit because I don't do well with no sleep, I need a few hours each night.
I can't stand the sound of a wet brush on concrete. It doesn't actually make me vomit, but I feel like I'm going to when I hear it.


To control my issues, someone once taught me some breathing exercises. I breathe in for 10, hold for 5 and breathe out for 5. I have absolutely no idea how this helps, but if it's an annoying noise it doesn't bother me as much.

I can also recommend this, although I wouldn't wear them if you are trying to listen to your professor, that would be a little harder. Make sure they are good though, and confortanke because I have got these earplugs which muffle very high and very low frequency sounds, but they aren't anywhere near as effective as the reviews of users have led me to believe, they just annoyed me by keeping something in my ear instead.

I don't hear things like bugs in my room. Well, only if one of my moths that I collect start fluttering about like mad when I switch off the light when I go to sleep, but that doesn't bother me. Flies annoy me when they are buzzing around the room because I wonder how it ever got in here.

But I still have sensory issues, like I hate when people talk about my room, or make some sort of shuffling noises right outside my door. And I can't stand loud sudden noises. They seem to make me ill.

I can't stand any noise when I sleep so now I sleep with a fan on to cancel out the other noises. Also I HATE when people scratch their fingernails on paper or when my pencil doesn't have much of an eraser left and it scratches the paper. It hurts my head and neck it feels like
