I'm finding that no matter how much I learn and improve, I'm still a dumbass. When I was in High School I matured very rapidly and about every three months I would slap myself in the face as I realized how stupid I was 3 months before. I'm in college now and my rate of improvement is a little slower, but I'm always finding that I'm still a dumbass, regardless of how much I improve, socially, academically, emotionally, philosophically, etc.

That's actually part of the reason I give myself the name "ShamelessGit." I actively try to destroy my pride because it gets in the way of finding out about what a f*****g dumbass I am. Pride also makes me self conscious. I don't like being a dumbass and I need to be able to see where it's hiding in order to chase it out of me.

If I ever get to be an old fart and could look back 5 years and think, "I was okay back then," I don't know if I'd breathe a sigh of relief or be horrified that I might still a dumbass and was just too stupid to figure it out anymore.

I thought this would be a good way to start a conversation about self growth or embarrassing memories that nag at you.

I think everyone has moments where they feel stupid. We sometimes do things without thinking. Thats normal. I don't think you should be so hard on yourself. Take it one day at a time, remember everyone messed up at times.

I don't see a typo. "Old fart" is a term that people use for old person who's not worth much anymore where I come from. Is that what you're talking about?

YES! I feel this was a lot. Looking back, my past is nothing more than a series of socially embarassing moments.

Avoid the phrase "dumbass" and you're going to be in better shape right away.

Oh, sorry, thought the question was, are you a smartass?

Yes. IQ doesn't matter, GPA doesn't matter, what matters is that I never know what's going on. People are constantly playing tricks on me, laughing at me, or treating me like I'm incompetent. I never know what I'm supposed to do. I'm always confused. I'm definitely a dumbass.

I hate bullies. People who are mean to you don't deserve your respect or care. I had terrible social skills as a child but I almost never got directly bullied because I wasn't socially skilled enough to see that I was being bullied, or when I did notice I didn't care. People usually bully to make themselves feel better than you, which probably means that they have low self esteem, so it's not very hard to turn the tables on them if you've got some nerve.

Once some girls were laughing at me in Junior High (I never found or why or cared), and I just looked at them with an expression that probably looked something like "What the f**k do you want?" and they got quiet really quick and never did it again. Another time there were a group of guys teasing me on the bus from a few seats in front of me and when it got time to get off I walked up to the person who seemed to be the leader and said something like, (I don't remember exactly) "Get in my face the next time you want to say something mean instead of doing it across the bus with a bunch of friends," and he never did it again either. I find that indifference to taunts and aggression towards physically harmful or disruptive bullying is usually enough to stop bullies. Show them from the beginning that you're willing to put more into the fight than they are and they will back down.

But sometimes teasing is friendly. If the people who tease you act like your friends at other times then they are probably teasing you in a friendly way. I got plenty of that when I was younger but I didn't mind so much because I knew that they were my friends. They always quit if they saw I was getting upset and if they didn't then they weren't my friends anymore.

I think I was really dumb as a kid but have learned to engage brain before speaking now.
Try to do things at a slower pace and think before you act.
Most of all go with the flow even if it compromises your views.
You'll then be accepted better by others.

I remember HATING football at school and letting my classmates know this.
The result?
I was instantly disliked by the rest of the class.
I would have been far better off swallowing my pride and joining in.
