my 10 year old brother is very very sensitive with noise. A few years ago it got so bad we took him to different therapists and doctors.it gets so bad that he has to listen to his ipod during meals. He can't stand when people chew, swallow, whisper, sleap,or snore. He gets so agrivated then he screams and kicks and throws stuff. these tantrums only last like 10 -20 mins then he storms off to his room.
the doctors and therapists thought it was just sensitive hearing, but I'm wondering if its something else?
he's very OCD, and shy around new people. He doesn't make eye contact. At first I thought it was aspergers but he doesn't stim and he reads facial expressions and body movements really well.
any ideas or advice?

I kind of know how he feels, but it was never that bad with me.

If your doctors are telling you it's just sensitive hearing, you need to stop hiring doctors by throwing darts at the yellow pages because they're quacks. It's definitely mental and you need to see a quality psychologist.

It is possible to have that sensitive of hearing. One of the current arguments going on for the DSM-5 is whether Sensory Processing Disorder - which causes issues like you're describing.

Having that suggests to me that he should have a complete neuropsych test though, because SPD is often not the only thing that's going on. It is however, sometimes.

It sounds exactly like misophonia.

Unfortunately, doctors aren't often acquainted with it.
Here's a site that can help.

I thought I had misophonia, but I'm pretty sure it's just Asperger's now.
