what would be a socially acceptable outlet to be able to share information on a very odd special interest? I feel like I need to (not sure how to phrase this concept) vent, release the data... i don't know the correct words for this. Basically my interests are very far beyond the norm and tend to deeply disturb other people... This post must read like total gibberish and i'm sorry...ugh.

I tend to become very interested in certain medical conditions, typically ones which are highly misunderstood. These people interest me so much, but i have realized telling other people around me about them is a very bad idea. What would be a proper outlet for this info, a way to share my interest without upsetting and angering others?

thank you to all who bothered to read this, i know its not making sense in verbal form. All comments, advice or other thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

You can always talk about your interests here. Maybe in the Random Discussion you could start a discussion about it and maybe warn people that if they are going to read about it, they should use discretion before reading. Then only people who will be interested in reading about it can read it and then say what they think. There are some people who love reading about other peoples' interests. I often like to read about them too, especially the strange ones. The stranger a person's interest is, the more interesting it is, in my opinion.

Edit: It would be pretty awesome though if your interest in medical conditions could lead to you becoming a doctor some day. :D

Blogging about it is one of the things I've seen work best. Then people who want the information can find it and you can share it with people without it being talking to people who don't want to hear it.

I would also consider finding a forum for people who share that interest. When you do, it is likely that your depth of knowledge will find a willing audience of people who share it.

Agreed. I help moderate a forum for people / carers / professionals who have something to do with an eye condition called Nystagmus. it's not unusual for some to say that they want to know more about it. But, it's usually relatives of people with it.

I hsve nystagmus, could you tell me what the forum is?

OP, I think the one thing you have to be careful about with medical conditions is people can be sensitive about that stuff so it could be a bit more difficult for an aspie to talk about it, but it can be done. I like to blog, it helps me get out the stuff in my head.

A blog for nystagmus! Will wonders never cease! The bassist from the last band I was in had nystagmus and macular degeneration. He shouldn't be driving but he does anyway.

Are there forums for everything out there? A forum for cancer survivors? A forum for those who were abused? A forum for modern day vampires? A forum for those with cleft palates and cleft lip? A forum for Vulcan cadets? A forum for nail biters? Fascinating.

If there's a forum for Aspies there's probably a forum for anything. :D

Yep, there are indeed forums for anything you can think of. In fact, my mom keeps telling me that I should start up a forum for people with imaginary friends, since I am one. :)
