I like just taking the cube apart and reassembling it. I've solved them the normal way before but I find this method much much more fun. Plus it's logical - if they didn't want me to take the cube apart they wouldn't have made it possible - it's like how Alexander the Great solved the Gordian Knot in legend - he took out his sword and sliced it.

I have a similar problem - I can listen to a song for years, many times, and never learn the lyrics. I have to very purposefully learn them.
