One day in the future it probably be able put computer chips into the brains of people neuro disorders such autism and NVLD. This will help people with NVLD because the right side of the brain is broken. With autism the brain is wired differently so I think it will not work on them.

There's no such things as disabilities man - we're aliens and they're coming to get us at the end of 2012 when Lucifer destroys Jerusalem and installs NWO in America and installs the National Guard in the streets due to hyperinflation and the collapse of the US Dollar and the Loonie all thanks to the Chineese dumping US T bonds over years of devaluation.

This is so totally accurate. I can't wait to go back to Wrong Planet.

No chips for my brain! There is no way of telling what some of these companies, and the gov may try to do with these things. I won't let anyone try to turn me into a Stepford citizen, or use it for tracking me. The gov and big corps don't belong in my mind, or anyone else's.

Chips is vodka man...if anyone gets it awesome but its basically an inside joke me and my brother came up with, so I wont be suprised if no one gets it. I just felt it was oddly relevant to this thread.

The only chip I'll put in my head is one that increases my intelligence.

Well, that would really suck, because getting nano chips implanted in one's brain is effectively the equivalent of getting assimilated by the Borg. For those of you not fluent in Star Trek, it means we're all going to turn into mindless half-human half-robot zombies who are all connected and share a single hive mind that is bent on assimilating the rest of the universe in order to obtain Borg "perfection", in short, we're all screwed. No assimilation or nano chips for me thank you very much.

Umm... It doesn't work that way.

A.) We're already using electrodes in people's brains. Check out "deep-brain stimulation". It's for people with Parkinson's and similar movement disorders. It's more like a "brain pacemaker".

B.) Autistic brains and NVLD brains are not "broken". They developed differently to begin with. A short person is not a sick tall person; an autistic or NVLD brain is a not a sick neurotypical brain, but a healthy autistic one. Putting an electrode in the brain of an autistic person wouldn't change them into a neurotypical, any more than putting casts on the legs of a short person would make them grow tall.

I would like to have a computer in my brain to help me with stuff I am lousy at. It would be like my laptop only it would exist internally and I wouldn't have to carry it around with me or worry someone would steal it. I just hope it would be easy to charge. Not sure how that, exactly, would work :?
I'd be one of the first ones in line so long as the technology wasn't too buggy.

Well I had head injury which caused my NVLD. NVLD is not autism because is caused by brain damage or infection.

A chip in the brain like in, "Ghost is the Shell?" That would be awesome. Well, except for having my memories and soul potentially erased by hackers.

More seriously, a smart-phone type device that displays directly into my visual cortex would cool. And a way to push virtual buttons would be necessary, then. And throw in an auditory interface, and an MP3 decoder, for fun.

It would also be helpful to have a way to modulate/filter sensory input, but I'm guessing that that would be be a very complex task and not nearly possible in the near future.

Ah, you got NVLD? I got NVLD. But meh, I can't say I trust the medical establishment enough to allow them to put nanochips in my brain, even if the right hemisphere is more stupid than the left. And NVLD guys, yeah, is a "flaw," in my case, my verbal IQ is like 130+, but my nonverbal is like 80 or less. So it only leads to a total "average" IQ, so without NVLD I'd be totally sweet and be a genius, but I guess it's the burden I must bear in life. Could be worse. I don't know the cause of my NVLD, maybe God meant it to be, maybe it's just accidental, but I'm stuck with it I guess, for better or worse.

I don't know, though, it's hard for me to think of it as "healthy" or "meant to be" in the case of my NVLD, as it's clearly....a flaw. It's not the same as just different, it is broken. Whether or not the brokenness works out in one way or the other remains to be seen, but so far it's not worked out to be very helpful to the point that other people consider me a successful person. People see me as this person who's so smart, but can't get anything to work. It's like I'm given all the knowledge in the world...and no capability to use it.

In the real world, that's called being neurotypical.

I personally do not like the notion of monkeying with the brain. I am also concerned that the implanted chip may be used to prevent individuals from exhibiting an undesired emotion such as anger or depression. As far as mind-control (where actual thoughts are governed) goes, I don't see technology advancing to that point just yet... Now if I could use said chip for controlling some sort of weapons system, that might be interesting and fun

So at December 21st we will return to our own world at last. That means that we are free to become masters of the universe and superb things like that.
