Are you talking about being emo or something? I don't listen to labels. Are you in high school?

I'm going into high school this upcoming school year.
I don't know if they were talking about being emo, They could have been joking around but I can't read body expressions to save my life, so I couldn't tell.

It depends on how you make it work for you. If you're confidently awkward/crazy, or if you're unconfidently awkward/crazy.

I like this. :D

It's similar to my saying, just let a medium mistake be a medium mistake.

I also like the approach, if someone needs space, I will graciously give space, without the intermediate step of asking whether they 'should' need space.

They could have been half-joking around! Or trying on the idea. NTs tend to do that kind of thing.

Congratulations on your upcoming high school years. I think a lot of it is being part of a team and contributing to a team, whether you associate with other young people interested in theater , medical careers , etc. And I think the skills of low-key leadership are more direct and straightforward than the more nebulous skills of followship, and often more satisfying as well. Best wishes! :D

Awkward as in, awkward people attempt to appear normal, so normal people attempt to appear awkward? I don't get this at all... It's one thing to pretend to be normal, but to pretend to be awkward? Why would anyone want to be that way?

I'm curious as to how this would work now.
As long as they're not trying to be awkward like someone with genuine social inabilities, since that would be quite offensive.

Yeah, it's definitely a certain type of awkward they're looking for.

Being akward but still able to socialize and make people want to be around you....is cool according to many people it seems. But being akward, failing at social interaction and accidentally pissing people off isn't so cool.

I think it only comes off as cool when you embrace your awkwardness and don't care what others think. I was at a show recently with an audience full of people who fit that description. I could tell though that even though they appeared more awkward than me at first glance (I was people watching) I realized I was the only one with in sight who had to keep looking at the ground because the sun was hurting my eyes and I was the only one bouncing on my toes and flapping my hands because I get anxious being around so many people. It was a strange realization.

I was just saying recently that I wish I was "cool eccentric" rather than just awkward and strange. Eccentric can have a connotation of being cool and interesting and people will proudly proclaim that they are just "weird" ,'quirky" or "eccentric"........at least my very socially adroit sister and friend will. However they (and my sister for-sure) mean that they have cute lovable quirks not annoying, disturbing, off-putting quirks like mine. The same people who claim to be weird and quirky look down on me for my quirks like having to wait for a certain number of buses to go by before getting on one because I fear crowds and getting off a bus if it becomes too noisy and/or crowded. When with other people doing something like that is just annoying. Looking at one person for a long time while talking to a different person, whispering "hi" so the other person can barely hear it or asking a friend something really embarrassing in a louder than average voice (bcs you can't modulate the volume of your voice is a quirk, stuttering out of nervousness is a quirk ,having a really weird harsh sounding laugh is a quirk, but theses things aren't lovable , they just make people uncomfortable. Growling and forming a "claw" with your hand when angry (in public) is quirky but that's just disturbing to other people. No one aspires to have these quirks........this is real social awkwardness.....and most people who have these quirks don't want them- -----------sorry for the ranting I'm in a bad mood-----

Then I must be freaking awesome... Maybe they don't know the real definition of awkward, since they're morons.
