I am a 28 year old male living in Florida, just recently learned of AS and I wish to get tested for it. I've taken two online tests, one with 50 questions and one with 200, I scored 37 and 126 respectively. Anyways, what are my options for an actual professional diagnosis. Approximate costs would be appreciated.

This website http://www.autism-pdd.net/links/florida.html may be of help. You can also check your local blue pages of your phone book under state listings for MHMR, and call to see if they do screenings. some states do, some don't.

You don't mention if you are working or not, seeking a private psychologist is another method but may be expensive, with or w/out insurance.

Most reputable diagnosticians will prefer to have one of your parents come along if available, in order to give a picture of you as a child.

Thanks :)

Working but no insurance, unfortunately. Left my last job because I couldn't meet the social expectations at the workplace and saw myself quickly slipping into the role of office pariah. My father is living and available as is my older brother. Speaking of my father, he seems to just barely manage to pass as functional in the social world and exhibits the majority of the external signs of AS. This is factoring heavily in my desire to get tested.

Thanks again.

You may also want to check with your state's rehabilitation commission. At times they will diagnose you in order to provide services. Applying for ssdi is another option - that's how my DH got dx'd - they sent him to MHMR for an eval.

Good luck.

If refered by the state is the evaluation likely to be free?

Thanks again for your help.
