Stare off into space a lot and people have to say your name or speak to bring you back to reality? It's not that I'm thinking of anything I just "zone" out and think of nothing and "shutdown" It's weird. Not upset or depressed. Perhaps tired but I was wondering if those with Autism do this more than other people do. Thanks!

I've always been a daydreamer, much to my teachers' dismay. No amount of scolding could break me of it.

Yes. That's been happening to me all my life. Always wondered why. I'll just be staring intensely at...absolutely nothing, and "disappear" for a few moments.

I also have ADHD and very frequently hyper focus on one or two things and tune the entire rest of the world out. It can be problematic when I need to get chores done.

This happens to me often. Doesn't matter if I'm tired or well rested. I just get lost in thought and completely wander off in my mind, not noticing anything that my senses are telling me unless someone really tries getting my attention.

For a while I mistook this state to be "emptiness" while meditating 8O I like "nothing box" it's very fitting (don't mind the pun).

All the time.

I don't really have a problem with it, but people click their fingers in front of my face or touch me and I hate that.

If my partner is with me he stops them, and brings me back gently (if I'm missed, that is).

Yep. Sometimes I'm in my own world, but mostly there's nothing going on in my head. "Shutdown" is a good analogy. So is "nothing box"

Haha, I have ADHD and hyperfocus, too. Too bad it's not something we can control, eh?

I am never not thinking but I do get stuck in my thoughts and forget where I am.
If you can't recall your thoughts you might have petit mal seizures. They're common in autism.

My shutdowns involve a slowing down of mental and physical abilities so I wouldn't use that term to describe myself when I'm 'zoning out.'

I have ADHD too there have been some very rare moments where I can control hyperfocus.
