Synaesthesia
I know that some people on the Autistic Spectrum have Synaesthesia, which is why I thought that it would be okay to post this thread here, however if it's not, please tell me and I'll move it to somewhere more appropriate!
I was wondering if anyone has Synaethesia here, and if so, what form?
I've had many discussions with my bf who thinks that I have Synaesthesia, however I disagree. I can associate a lot of things with colour for some reason.
When I hear music, I can associate it with a colour in my head, e.g. Ludovico Einaudi - I Giorni seems blue/purple. I don't actually see colour through my eyes, so things don't appear a different colour, but in my head I can see colour, if that makes sense? (The music has to be instrumental though). Likewise, when I was studying, all of my folders were different colours - Biology - Green, Chemistry - Light Blue, Maths - Black, Philosophy & Theology - Pink. I could not have it any other way - it would just feel wrong. I get this all the time when I have to associate colours with things. Someone might write on the whiteboard in a school with purple in a Maths lesson, and I would feel annoyed the whole lesson, because I feel that it should be black.
Obviously I have no idea if this is how Synaesthetes do see things, and if so, that's fine and maybe I do have Synaesthesia, but from what I've heard, it seems that they actually see colour.
I also feel immense emotion when I listen to music, despite struggling with empathy etc - I guess this is unrelated, but someone else might feel the same way.
So yes, I was wondering, does anyone else here have any expreriences?

Yes, I too think you have synaesthesia. There are two types or synesthetes: projectors and associators. Projectors project a mental image (e.g.: one listens to a song and actually sees the color blue in front of their eyes), while associators associate a certain sensation with another one, like you described in your post. However, projectors and associators should be seen as the terminal points of a continuum. I myself am somewhere in the middle of the continuum. I definitely associate colors, shapes and tactile sensations to sounds, but have only a vague mental image of the said sensations, similar to those created by my imagination. If I close my eyes, the images become more vivid.
Because my synaesthesia was so subtle, I didn't believe for many years I had it. But I definitely do.
Most synaesthetes are associators, not projectors.
Here's some reading material about projectors and associators:

I have roughly 8 forms of synesthesia. color-taste, grapheme-color, music-color, taste-color (not the same as color-taste), months/days-color, subjects-color, and motion-sound,numbers-color/texture/personality/gender.
it does sounds like you have music-color and subject-color. Like Steven_tyler77 said, there's 2 types of syn, projectors and associators. It sounds like your an associator.
I wish there was a forum like WP for synesthetes.

I am suspected to have aspergers, but I'm not diagnosed.
Thank you all for replying!
Ahh, thanks Steven_Tyler77, and fefe333 I didn't realise that there are 2 types of Synaesthetes . Indeed, it does seem like I do have Synaesthesia, and that I am an Associator rather than a Projector. I had only heard of the latter!
So I have music-colour and subject-colour Synaesthesia. I haven't heard of the latter form of Synaesthesia before. I might do some more research!
