I'm curious, i got told that diagnosing something like Aspergers or Autism takes a long time to do properly... how did you get the diagnosis in a hour and a half? Was it so clear that you had it? Do you have other things in your life like depression that can mimick symptoms? I'm just curious
It depends, the good doctors are usually very adept at watching your mannerisms and behavior while you talk. I've learned after seeing so many psychologists that most of the time they pay more attention to how you talk and express yourself versus the things that you tell them. To the trained eye A LOT can be inferred and even discovered about a person just from how they move their hands, eye contact, speech pattern etc. I'm sure the op probably shared a ton of information too in this time that helped the doctor reach her conclusion. No diagnosis is ever perfect or 100%, aspergers and autism isn't like aids or pregnancy where you do some blood work and stuff is figured out, obviously. At the same time, the doctor or psychologist has been trained to watch a person and to quickly be able to spot evidence of a mental condition. A doctor wants to figure out a problem, diagnosis it, in a hasty manner to (hopefully) help their patient. Of course this is how wrong diagnosis come about but I was just trying to offer some insight..I guess.
I'm sorry for sounding like a know-it-all, I'm not. Just using some of the logic and lessons I was giving when I was taking medical courses about patient assessment.
