There seems to be a theme of people who either can't understand or don't enjoy fiction books for one reason or another.

I personally don't like fiction books, but I really like sitcoms on TV.

Do you like sitcoms? or other fictional TV shows?

If so, why do you think this is? My theory is that there is already a 'picture' which is made of the scene etc. Although I still sometimes can't follow the plot, understand the characters etc and often notice things I previously missed.

Also, I rewatch my favourite shows often.

Oh gods, I can't stand most sitcoms. I find the embarrassing situations horribly uncomfortable and have to leave the room if they are on.

I do prefer fictional TV shows to books. I'm not a particularly fast reader so sometimes it can feel like it takes ages to get to the point, plus my concentration isn't all that great to begin with. I like sitcoms like Curb Your Enthusiasm because its funny and also highlights all the silly social rules we have in society.

See, with me it's more opposite. I don't watch too much television. If I do it's usually about realistic things. I prefer to read a fiction book any day.

I don't like a lot of fictional television in general, so I don't watch too many sitcoms (Big Bang Theory excepted). Plus, I don't tend to agree with the sexual morals of our times and so I find the promiscuity prevalent in much of today's fictional television disgusting.

I hate most sitcoms; mainly due to the canned laughter. "Friends", "Big Bang Theory" etc are impossible to watch - every ten seconds there is a lame joke and some canned laughter. I just can't block out the crappy laughter and it irritates me terribly. The most I can stand is around 1 minute then I have to turn the TV off or change program. HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA HAHAHAHA. Load of shite! :x

I don't like shows full of canned laughter either, sometimes it can show the demographic its aimed at by having to signal them when to laugh at something. A truly funny show doesn't need to tell an audience when to laugh.

I don't watch alot of sit-coms. I like watching Seinfeld. It has shown me how NOT to act. I like watching Friends. However the only character that I really like is Chandler. I like his sarcasm. I watch forensic shows most of the time.

I used to watch sitcoms all the time, but not anymore. My mother really likes The Big Bang Theory and tells me I'm a lot like the characters but I really don't care for the show at all. I spend most my time on the computer now, and I do try to watch some TV I can almost feel some sort of magnetic force from my computer in the other room trying to drag me back to it. I must be really addicted.

I like sitcoms because they're easy to understand. They usually have very simple, archetypal characters and I find comfort in predicting how each character will act in a situation.

I find sitcoms to be just plain horrible. The stupid laughter at EVERYTHING. Some jokes might not be my cup of tea and i would understand if someone laughed at it, but a few simple words are spoken and the audience is going bonkers. The only one i make a exception for is Married With Children. That show actually has funny jokes and a funny story to it.

I used to watch a lot of sitcoms and liked Seinfeld and Frasier a lot...... they helped me learn a lot about the social world (even though the sitcom worlds are exaggerated....not quite like real life). I don't watch them much anymore but I'm obsessed with fiction (fantasy) novels!!

I feel the same way. That must also be why I like TVTropes so much

I'm glad someone agrees with me, there seems to be a lot of hate for sitcoms round here!

I LOVE sitcoms! My favorite ones are:

Malcolm in the Middle

That 70s Show

Everybody Loves Raymond

Everybody Hates Chris

Two And a Half Men

Greg the Bunny

and I recently got interested in Big Bang Theory, too. :) I also like British sitcoms, such as Keeping Up Appearances, Waiting for God, and Are You Being Served. I'm a fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus, too, but IDK if that falls under the category of a sitcom, since it's mostly comprised of comedic sketches.

The only sitcom I really love is Friends. Mainly because I can relate to each of the characters in a little way. Plus I find the sarcastic humour easy to understand and absolutely hilarious.
I've walked down the street before and thought of a scene in Friends and can't help but burst out laughing.

I can't say I've watched many others, though, unless The Office (English version) is considered a sitcom? But that seems more mockumentary than anything.
I also like Extras, but again not sure if it's a sitcom or not. I like them cause they're really awkward and cringe-worthy.
Oh! There's also The Young Ones. I loved that show.

I also quite like Seinfeld, but have only seen a few EP's when I've seen it on TV. I haven't watched TV in about 5 years, so just watch whatever I buy on DVD.
