I really wonder effects of video games on people with AS. Do you feel excessively angry when you fail in video games? Can this situation lead to a total meltdown, when combined with other factors? Of course anyone can feel a bit frustration while playing, however it seems some people may get out of control. Here is an example.

And of course, other people there found this funny. I can't understand what is funny in this. Nevermind...

Can we consider this behaviour as a meltdown? Thanks for your answers in advance.

I feel excessively angry when I fail in anything, and no more or less when it's a video game.

It looks like a meltdown is occurring in the video. When I fail in games like this and I get extremely frustrated, I normally know when to quit before I completely lose it. But for me, I normally just cuss loudly and that helps me to feel a little calmer.

I don't necessarily have a meltdown, but I get frustrated enough to quit.

I don't really play video games any more, and one of the biggest reasons is because I will meltdown easily when I fail.

Yes, one of the reasons I don't play video games. I don't like to play any games that require skills of body coordination. Besides, I find role playing games boring from the beginnings, sorry folks.

I remember as a teen I used to get into one or another video games so much that I become totally absorbed by them, forgetting about my environment (e.g. to eat) never becoming as skilled as others.

As a kid it happened sometimes, although not often and not so bad as that.

Interestingly though, video games tend to reward things like patience (especially older ones) and self-control, one can get better at those things in the process.

It's totally the opposite for me, especially as an adult. When, as a child, I sometimes had nothing to cling to for sanity but video games, I would get pissed about them. I've broken my share of remotes, but I've never had a meltdown over them. Now I enjoy failure in a game. I've learned to power game, and power gaming calms me maybe more than any activity. Failure is the ultimate power gamer bait. It means you need to stop, study your numbers and tactics and options, and try something new. I even sometimes add extra challenges for myself when playing games I know well.

Me too. There is a boss in the game I play that is so impossible for me to beat that the last time I tried and failed I had to go lock myself in my room and cry. I almost never cry except sometimes when someone close to me dies.

I like game that have grinding and reward patience better than twitch games.

Video games are a special interest for me. Some of them, I'm almost at a pro level. When I'm having a really bad day at competitive games, I'll definitely start to get angry and upset. If I don't catch myself, I'll go right into a meltdown. Usually it's my bookshelf that pays the price. The poor thing is covered in dents and cuts. Hasn't fallen apart yet.

But, the exact same games can be so amazingly therapeutic when I'm doing well. The zenlike state of acting and reacting just pushes all troubles, all thoughts away and I can just be for a while. It's relaxing and invigorating.

I love video games but they definitely get me into angry meltdown territory!! My family never used to go near me when I would play computer games coz I would just totally lose it. I was really scary!

I tend to avoid them these days also, as they either (a) get me really shamefully angry, or (b) I get so absorbed in them that I totally lose time and get sucked into this vortex for hours and hours, not helpful when you have so much stuff to do!!

And yeah, failing at anything would be bad for me, but particularly computer games. I used to get angry at the computer for "cheating" a lot too lol

And I used to hit the desk like that guy in the video, all the time!! lol
