Does it bother you when people say one thing and do something totally different like give advice and not even follow their own advice like they are above it all-I get this a lot with people at work-but its a general situation question.

It does bother me, but I've learned the door does not swing both ways. I'm expected to do something but am not granted the same in turn. It's ugly, but apparently that's my life.

The results of the poll so far made me laugh outloud.

If there's one thing I'm allergic to in this world it's people saying one thing when they mean or think another. It drives me berserk to have to pretend like I see only the verbal part of their message and believe it, but know they expect me to hear and believe the part they didn't say. NTs love this game and they all believe that it makes for a smooth, harmonious society, when in fact it makes everyone paranoid trying to decipher one another. Yes, they have ToM, but not even ToM is enough for all this convoluted communication humans have invented and perfected. NTs try to justify it by calling it "politeness", but they fail to mention that all that politeness has done nothing for humanity so far.

I think their ToM is SO good they actually get along with this issue just fine.
It's just that when your ToM is very weak or non-existent that you get this disconnect and are unable to get all those sneaky hidden messages.
You can't claim it's too convoluted for anyone, just because we can't get it.

That's like a blind person saying the clouds must be a lie made up by the seeing, as they can't touch, see or hear clouds...

If that was true, all hermits would be aspies and Billy Joel would be an aspie too ("Honesty/Is such a lonely word/everyone is so untrue").

Aspies tend to idealize society, and it doesn't help when NTs come to teach aspies about society, because then they're in the advocating mode towards society. The reality is totally different. Most humans are disinchanted in society because of all the subterfuge and double-speak, dishonesty, miscommunication. As is widely said, "in the communications era we are in a communication crisis".

We don't make any positive contribution to society by imitating its sicknesses.

It bothers me that the title of the thread and the title of the poll are different.

Damn!

Im the only one NOT bothered by it!
Im the one aspie who can handle nuance?

Most people in the USA( regardless of whether they are nt or aspie) take Genisis in the Bible absolutely litereally. That creates a host of problems that wouldnt exist if they all took it at as symbolic piece of litereature- as I do.

Thats what I was thinking about when I answered.

Im a kidder myself.
But I do get conversations in which I respond the other person's opinion with a lecture on their lack of facts-to which they respond that they were "just joking"- to which I respond with "oh, its not that you're impaired in how to make a serious point. Its that you're impaired in how to tell a joke. Okay.. when you tell a joke.. you know..A joke thats recognizable as a joke because its actually funny.. it has to contain humor. Which means it has to contain atleast some kernal of truth. Since what you said does not contain any truth it isnt funny. When you impersonate Humphrey Bogart you give him a lisp. When you impersonate Clark Gable you dont put on a lisp. What you did was the equivalent of giving Clark Gable a nonexistant lisp!"

Folks dont seem to apreciate these pearls of wisdom. Oh well.
