I think someone was trying to scaremonger me

This person I know is a psychologist and she's made it perfectly clear to me that she and her team of psychologists don't think there's enough evidence to support Asperger's as a real disorder. Well tonight she told me that the proposed changes to the DSM meant that Aspergers would be dropped as a diagnosis. For a split second I believed her but she referred to it as DSM IV, then 'My' DSM IV, as if she was re-writing the whole damn manual.

I was thinking it's kind of cruel to do that do a person. I never thought she was saying it before to be deliberately mean, just that she didn't know enough about AS.

Anyway, I think I'll continue to look for her proposed DSM IV changes. I'm thinking a form of treatment to those who previously had AS be sent to work in coal mines. Can anyone direct me to a link?

What I heard is that although the diagnosis of Asperger's may change, it won't be got rid of, it will be classed as HFA. People won't 'lose' their diagnoses.

Yes, I know it will be merged into Autistic disorder. And it's not to limit to autism spectrum but so people with AS or PDD can get more support that a person with classic autism would exclusively get.
It's just that you put your trust in people and they tell you something like this. Oh well, to be honest I never really liked her for her stance on AS/HFA and possibly ADHD. I prefer psychiatrists over psychologists any day.

What a quack. Is there anything real that can be done about the careers of people like this? It seems like this shouldn't be allowed: to refuse to seriously consider something in any case just because you don't want to, against the knowledge of the bulk of the psychological community.
