It seems to take me at least a week to recuperate after a family or social event. I know it might seem like an excessive amount of time, does anyone else have this same issue?

A week? Isn't it a little bit..I dunno...too much?
Are you sure you're not exaggerating on purpose?

well I'm over 60 now but at this stage it takes me 2 to 3 days according to the intensity - some I'am conpletely screwed when I leave and barely able to funtion - so think how it was years back - but I do much better if I am in my usual environment with people around - but sometimes it takes time just to deal with being in a store

I am not exaggerating I really get that drained. It seems like a struggle just to do anything after it. Especially after a family vacation which normally lasts 4-5 days.

Is there something I can do to make it less excessive? Any suggestions?

A day, usually. I had a jam-packed weekend full of events last week, and basically I've spent the past two days alone...

It depends on how much good, structured, unwinding time I get. If I get my before and after bed time with my wife, not more than a day, or even a night, after a one day thing. I always maintain in some way within a longer event (headphones/DS time, long showers, etc.) so I never really get too far gone. I just need something regular to ground me every so often, then afterwords.

That's funny - I think you're trolling.

Anyway, in answer to OP -
2-3 days until I feel normal (not frazzled), over a week until I feel up to facing another social event.

A couple of days for me.

Unless things went badly there, then it could take a lot longer.

It can take up to a week for me. And people wonder why I "never want to do anything".

Usually the rest of the day/night when the interaction takes place, the whole night (very little or no sleep) and then the next day (partly/mostly? because of the sleepless night). Sometimes a couple days and nights if the interaction was more stressful than normal.
