With all the chaos outside are you able to exercise?

For once, some time ago, I was about to say to someone that I just *couldn't* jog in the day due to all the noise and bustle, but he had interrupted to say that it must be because I'm lazy. And I just realized that even though sometimes I accuse myself of laziness the real reason is the utter nonsense outside.

I just can't jog in the day, not when there's a zillion cars about to hit you from all directions and stupid-looking people just about to bump into you making it inevitable that you go zigzag continuously until you tire out from that alone. No, I jog in the night if I could, but I'm now thinking of buying a cross-trainer.

Luckily I have an area around where I live where it is scenic and relatively quiet. However I would never be able to jog in my neighborhood , too many people/noises/etc.
I quit going to the gym that's a block away from me as it was always crowded/hot/not to mention I didn't know how to interact with the same people every day socially. I was there purely to work out, but I realize people go there to socialize.
Some days I can't bring myself to exercise outdoors. Luckily I have good workout equipment in my room. A small elliptical, free weights, a yoga mat is all I need.
I prefer working out in my room-I can listen to my music, blast the AC, work out for however long I want, and best of all, no worries about socializing or getting hit by a car or getting heat stroke!
I completely understand your frustrations.
Definitely look into buying a cross trainer, there are many available for all budgets and house sizes.
Good luck.

I feel insecure jogging. There's nothing unusual about my appearance, I just feel like people will criticize me. When I come near people, I feel the need to stop jogging completely, but that would be weird. So, I'm lucky enough that my dad bought a treadmill.

Kind of off topic, but I was on a class trip and my group was leaving without me. I wasn't allowed to bring bottled beverages inside a museum, so I had to throw it out. My teacher told me to hurry as fast as I could to a recycling bin he found, and I felt insecure running... Even though I was supposed to hurry and be as fast as possible, I stopped running at times and the whole thing just looked awkward. I don't really remember why it was such a big deal in the first place, security probably would have just taken the bottle. xD

Jogging and such requires focus i do it around midnight. If there just one person coming on the sideway is enough for me to loose focus I gotta stop and it just ruins the excercise. Im nit sure how normal people do it or how they can focus when talking also

I feel the same when I'm cycling on the road when there are lots of cars, especially during the rush hours. Their noise and presence equally make me nervous. Even on low-traffic roads outside the city I feel a bit tensed. The best thing is to ride on trails in the mountain forests, their peace and silence, beautiful scenery helps me to release stress.

I live on a rural commune so no problem. I swim in the hippie pond when everyone else is at dinner. Plus, my stims are so high-metabolism, they are exercise in themselves. Still in good shape half a century on.

I agree I find going for a walk during the day with hundreds of cars, people and noises to much for me thats why I like to go bushwalking and mountain biking no noise just the trees swaying in the breeze, birds singing and the sound of water flowing over rocks a mountain stream very relaxing. I also do my excerise indoors mostly to my xbox kinect. I have Just Dance and Kinect adventures and Star Wars and I do housework as well.

Ha! I knew it wasn't just me who went jogging at midnight! I jog with music and when there's a person coming I have to pause it. Not sure why. But I certainly agree - they ruin it somehow.

I need a treadmill.

Treadmill is the only real answer, especially for those with Autism/Aspergers.

Plus it's warm inside when you do it in the winter!

I don't do a lot of running, but I do a lot of strength training.
I like to go to my gym in the middle of the night, or just work out at home since the crowds bug me out a little.
When I run I like to use a rubberized track and keep up with my distance constantly, which is a little weiird, I suppose.

I'm a skinny lad so I dont necessarily need to exercise. just need to stay toned. there are plently of walking and hiking oppurtunities for someone in my need. Its also been probmatic walking down the street with someone walking in the opposite direction, especially if there overweight and hogging up the sidewalk. it causes a brief moment of I dont know wich way your going, hopefully I dont run into you, please excuse me.

One time during winter a doctor pestered me to walk or jog more. Went outside and there is ice everywhere. I'm like f**k this.

Or recently tried mall walking because it's hot out. Had some mentally disturbed person zero in on me and dump their life story on me.

But now trying Gym and the Treadmills and that seems to be working. I like that it's 24 hour access so I can go anytime. The treadmill stations all have TVs so I put on my headphones.

I love going outside in the middle of the night. There are fewer bugs, and it's so dark and quiet. It feels like the whole world is all mine and no one is going to bother me.

I got around this problem by playing some really cool song, or at least, very singable. I could go through nearly an entire album, but usually stuck to the best songs. But I tended not to talk when people called my name if I was doing this. It was all about keeping my focus, though I came off as extremely rude.
If I go hiking/walking these days, I take something like a group of rubber bands & stim on them. It helps!

Sincerely,
Matthew

As I live in the suburbs I only have to go about have a mile to be in the middle of nowhere.

I do see other runners & cyclists around, though. I only do 100 metre sprints.

I stretch before I leave the house and use the walk down to the quiet lanes as a bit of a warm-up, then do a couple of half-speed sprints, before a series of flat-out one's.
