I have thought about starting one, but am afraid of putting too much personal information online that could later be used against me in a job hunting situation. Worse than that, something I write may be used out of context in a legal proceeding where I am falsely accused of a crime and what I write is used to show my thought patterns and convince a jury of my guilt. Maybe I over think things too much, but I like to analyze every possible scenario when making a decision about something like this.
You can use a pen name and not put location nor photos of yourself and your location. Also not use any real names for your wife and kids, if you have any children of course and married. You can also not say who you work for and what specific job you do.
True, and all of these things I do already. However, I look at how expansive the US government has gotten in terms of surveillance and I think I am better safe than sorry. Plus, I have had a bad experience in the past with the police. I reported a crime and got accused of having committed it. Now, they lacked enough evidence to arrest and charge me, but they made certain to make my life a living hell trying to pin it on me. I wound up having to leave my job because they kept coming to my work and harassing me. They even went so far as to take my garbage cans to sort through my trash. After that, I lost all trust in the government and the police. I don't think individual cops are bad but I will never again trust that my interactions with them will not go against me, especially considering how odd I come across as in unfamiliar social situations.
