I saw that on XKCD the other day and immediately thought of Asperger's! Yes, I had a good laugh at it too.

Brilliant, this is me when I can't avoid some kind of work related social...

I do not stay long these days...

Not so long back I went to a talk on some fairly advanced statistics.

Afterwards there was a chance to stay and chat after.

It was great, no-one wanted to talk about anything not related to the subjects we'd been discussing in the official talk (virtually no small talk). Everyone wanted to talk in groups of 2-3 and no bigger and after about 30-40 mins we'd all left because I guess that was about as much social interaction as anyone wanted to handle!

Bliss - I want more social interactions like that one...

Yes, yes.

At some point in my life I was that self-conscious, even way out to my early 30's.

Fortunately I matured out of this obsessive funk and somehow command a presence.

And to think I thought that was normal and that everyone had that going through their head all the time until a few months ago...

I don't think I've ever realised not everyone has that all that time in their heads. Do other people have a constant internal monologue anyway even when they are not with other people? I never get bored unless other people interfere, I honestly find my own head really really interesting, I'm always pondering and thinking, unless I get really frightened in a situation and then my mind just stops and I cannot think of anything what so ever. It's like internal selective mutism, sometimes I can be a bit verbal at the same time but my brain goes into shutdown.

That's a part of an anxiety disorder which often accompanies AS due to social difficulties and negative experiences.

I thought it was normal too,I never even considered that most people don't do this.I'm always thinking, considering ,and wondering. To pay attention to other people is like having to snap myself awake. It is a lot more interesting in my own head most of the time.

Wow, that sounds familiar
Eye contact is what mostly goes through my head when in a conversation. Then it's things like over thinking whether I'm looking around at other things too much or not and trying to figure out what to do with my hands. Trying to figure out how to react and what kind of expression I should be showing. And somewhere in all of this I'm trying to concentrate on what they're saying

OH yeah that is very definitely me I waver between too much eye contact (which is uncomfortable for me) and too little (which is fine with me but I know that it is technically rude.)

I usually ask myself whether or not I'm responding "normally" when someone's engaging me in conversation (albeit not much of a conversation on my part) and sometimes I even ask such questions aloud ("umm, I'm not entirely sure if I should be laughing or offended" and the like).
