I have a similar thing too. If I feel that a song is sad and I am forced to listen to it, I will get depressed because of it.
I have a very strong emotional connection with music. I always develop strong special interests with various bands/musicians and listen to their music for days/months/years on end. If some song gets into my head, I play it repeatedly in my mind and get obsessed with it. Sometimes, it won't stop if I don't actually listen to it in real life - it's like a "thirst" that I can only quench by getting to listen to the song.
I listen to music all the time when I'm home. But when I don't have music playing, my mind will relentlessly play some lines from one or a few songs I'm being into at the time. Most of the time, it will be shortened to one or two lines or an entire verse. There's never any minute of quiet in my mind
I like it this way and it allows me to go about my day while mentally playing my favorite music, but this gets ruined sometimes if I get to hear other songs on radio/TV. If they have a catchy tune, they will stick with me, even if I don't like them much. Very annoying occurence....
