Asperger's Video
I am just hoping for feedback... I recently made a video about Asperger's and types of thinking patterns. I know we are on a spectrum, and we all have these issues to some degree. I want to know if you all feel I am giving a good representation. I worked a long time on this, and tried to make it easy for anyone to understand.
I think the text I used may give some of us issues, but I am hoping for teaching the NT's mostly....
Thanks in advance!

You don't allow enough time to let some of us to read some of the paragraphs. Sorry, I got disgusted and quit watching it after a few minutes. I also feel stupid trying to figure out the letters at the very beginning of the video. After all we aren't children and most of us don't make such childish letters. I'm much more serious about learning about Aspergers Syndrome, although I think it can be a bit on the fun side. You want a captive audience, not an audience that runs away.
Hey, i thought it was fun and informative at the same time.
Not sure about the letters that come together on each page - that bit can get a bit repetitive. I think its ok for effect at the start.
It would have taken a long time to produce, and i sure couldn't do anything like that so well done.
Im sure some people will find it helpful.

That is why he is asking for feedback. I would have watched it through if certain parts of it was slow enough to read everything. He may be a speed reader, but I am not. But I guess I could pause the video too. Is that what you did at certain points? Sorry he put so much work into this video and I hope he gets better feedback than what I gave him. I don't have problems with the repetition, just the speed and the lettering at the beginning. Otherwise I love the graphics and that is about all.
Did you read what he said about the text part, which he even seen issues?
I stand by with what I say about this video. It lost me.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am a fast reader so I managed ok but only just. Better to slow it down and give time to process the info. I also knew what it was explaining so I had that advantage. The bubble writing is also hard to read black outline with white in the middle.
I liked the fish - but I love fish as a special interest

It's a good video, apart from one point that I disagree with.
I think you are mixing black and white thinking up with meltdown.
this passage
"When an Aspie is experiencing this confusion, trying to use logic, reason, or provide explanation just doesn't work and seems to actually make the person more frustrated and angry."
I find that when I'm getting confused logic, reason, and being able to ask questions and get clear answers helps. A lot.
It only fails to work when I am already in meltdown.
What takes me into a meltdown (or makes me more "frustrated and angry") is when people try to provide emotion as reasons (they then get asked why those emotions came about, a lot of people don't have the patience to answer these questions)
Or when the give up and tell me to stop being silly.
Or when they provide answers that and so bound up in presumed conventional thinking that they don't make any sense. (A simple example familiar to us all, Boys don't wear skirts because they're for girls. In that logic girls shouldn't wear trousers because boys wear them. There is no practical or logical reason for a boy to refrain from wearing a skirt. It is simply a presumed convention.)
Try explaining black and white thinking in a calm situation, then explain meltdown in another section.

Loved the music! Especially Sovereign Quarter. It was a bit too fast to read for me, but quite informative. I did not know that catastrophic thinking (which I am frequently told to be a pro at...) is related to Aspergers in any way. Just assumed the other fail to see why something is dramatic and will never be ok again.

I agree with what crookedfingers said about confusing black and white thinking with meltdowns. I'd also have to think more about other advice given to know how much I agree or disagree with it. Not saying I disagree yet, just saying I need more time.
I don't mind if words go by too fast to read, as long as there's enough time to hit the pause button. That's what I did, and it worked out fine for me. The letters were not too hard for me to make out, but I can see how others might have trouble. But the NT crowd you want to educate might find this a very good introduction. It was beautifully done, both with the sound and the visuals. It explained some very important things, and I'd recommend it as a good starting point. I could then discuss it with the person who watched it, explaining my views about what was in it - for example, the bit about black and white thinking versus meltdowns.
All in all, I think this will be a good aid and a very useful tool. Well done. I'm following this thread now, so please post here if you do another one. I'd like to be alerted so that I can see it. Thanks!

Thanks for all the great feedback! I do want the pro's and con's - not just the good bits
I do know the text goes a bit fast - but when I first began producing this video I was under the impression I had bang on 10 minutes.. so it was like stuffing as much as I could into it without totally cutting it out, or making it a total bombshell. When I learned I had 15 minutes, I went in and spent 3 days changing the text to be longer, doing that you then have to modify the effects, the graphics length and time the music. So - if I started over from scratch I probably could make the text a bit longer.. but having already more than 8 hours in a day on it and well over two weeks... I did my best making it eke out to the 11 minute mark. I decided in the end if it is too fast for some, they can easily pause it if need be vs another week and 40+ hours in production.
I unfortunately suffer from perfectionist thinking A LOT. So, things take me a REALLY long time and I will go without taking care of myself working every spare moment I have.
As for confusing black and white thinking for a melt down - I believe it IS the black and white thinking in the control seat taking us to melt down. . I personally have all logic go out the window when I am confused or can't grasp the other persons view. But - I can definitely look into it some more and find a different way to present it. I am not totally sure if I have enough gusto in me to go back in and edit out the changes... or just next time put up a "first copy" of my next video here and get feedback first and edit from there. It was only after I had finished my video and had it posted to youtube did it occur to me to ask for feedback here... I am brilliant at after thoughts lol.
I originally had a brown text, easy to read font where the black and white text is... but after some discussion with my NT boyfriend, I opted to change it. He had made some very valid points and went with the idea presented to me... that the video is discussing largely black and white thinking... keeping most of everything black and white fit the theme... just like the cartoon as well. I tried to keep an easy to read text and fiddled around with it until I thought the text was easy to read.. but then again maybe I got the 100th time and I got it thing happening.... It was easy to read because I had read the content well over 200x...
I agonized over the music ... I wanted something for each part that "spoke"... and what I ended up with I really think is beautiful.
As for the repetitive flocking text - I liked that coming in each time... when I had it with other effects, even just fade in I was very unsatisfied with the flow. Keeping the flocking text it brought what I felt was a continuity and structure vs unpredictability and no structure. I think maybe personal preferences come in at this point - and I have a hard time seeing outside my own point of view... I did get my boyfriends opinion through out the production and with his feedback tweaked some things, and felt he backed up some points I felt were lovely (such as this flocking text). I am sorry it isn't for everyone.... I would make it fit everyone if I could.
<----- would like to know what text is being referred to here... I don't see it... The cartoon title? The orange text?
Also - if you watch it, and decide it is worthy of a "like" or "dislike" please post a comment as to WHY you have decided it warranted the "like" or "dislike"... in Youtube land I very much appreciate explanation to understand the line of thinking behind the viewers rating.
Thanks so much for all the honest (didn't expect any other type though lol) feedback! I take all points as very valid and very worthy of consideration... I am just not so sure how much is left in my tank to do anything about it in this video... but will give you all a sneak peak of my next video so I can do right by most of us... and only most because I am just beginning to learn how to make these videos and I find the software not too user friendly. Thanks so very much!

I really appreciate your efforts. No video will be universally considered perfect. But yours makes a worthy contribution to the much needed effort to increase understanding, and it does it in a beautiful way. I've already recommended it to someone in another thread. Thanks for all your hard work.

I really liked it; I have seen all sorts of videos like this that described other illnesses/disorders, etc, but could never find any for Asperger's, and this one was very well done. My only concern (and it's an utterly irrelevant concern, just perseveration thinking on my part) was, do you know if whoever made the fish graphics actually put a fish in a wine glass? It was the first thing that popped into my head as I watched and it concerned me! Poor fish! Anyway, I was also wondering what the name of the piano music you used to accompany the text was, it's very pretty and I'd like to track it down. Overall, very well done on the video, and I commend your technical skills

Thanks so much ... as for the fish in the glass.. It is a royalty free creative commons video. I am assuming they put the fish in the glass.. as for all the fish in my video - I took two separate videos and over laid them so the fish in the glass is not really with the free swimming fish. I am sorry they caused you to worry.
Now onto the fun bit

That's awesome, thanks so much And, right here, another reason why I love this place: Only an aspie can understand that another aspie's distress over a fish in a glass is real and something to be concerned about!
