Are hipsters screwing over autism/nerds by being normal?

For lack of a bettter phrasing for the title I am using that as the title. Baasically that, I've seen on these forums that people have gotten angry at how it is 'cool' to be a nerd & how hipsters/indie people all flok towards being interested in chiptunes/nintendo core, video gaming (obscure gaming at that) and electronics. As an example of a hipster tv channel (yes, there is one - they even air a show titled I [heart] Hipsters], look @ current. http://current.com/. For (funny & not flattering) images of hipsters go on http://www.latfh.com/

Of course, this is biased against hipsters & many hipsters are decent people. But my point is this: are hipsters screwing over the nerd culture by the influx of 'normal' people into nerdy subcultures?

All alternative cultures that become popular, have a pop or pulp phase where the earlier art house beginnings go mainstream, the founding mothers and fathers despise their spawn, and commercialisation really kicks in.

It happens to the best of every thing. When I started to surf in the 80's often only 5 guys in the water. Now more like 30, the vibes definitely have changed

Yeah, I'd much rather have the NTs figure out that nerdiness is actually quite fun than have them marginalize nerds, because along with nerds they'll marginalize many autistics.

neh...I know someone who makes this type of stuff..and was making it before it was popular...he is 36...just a wee bit older than meeself...was making it at a time when it was not so easy to produce due to the technology available...it is rather impressive

It requires (or did) a sorta pretty technical/patient/obsessive mind to produce good quality stuff...my friend who was doing this a while back...though it is really well done...um...has got computer skillz.....only a few slightly autistic-ish traits....but...a computer science degree....IT occupation...etc...

This phenomenon is not completely new...look at how long ago movies like "Welcome to the Dollhouse" were made....

If you have communication difficulties..you will have just as hard a time with non autistic nerd-core hipsters as you will with everybody else...

It fits in with the theme of nerd cultures being amalgated into hipster & other neurotypical-dominated cultures, with varying effects to the original inhabitants of said culture (see gentrification for an IRL example)
