So this doesn't happen constantly, but e.g. right now, even though my eyes feel like they're about to burst and I'm physically tired, I can't stop reading stuff online. Somehow, I know that disconnecting is something I totally require for any hope of homeostasis, but I can't just calm down enough to back off.

It seems, of course, that there's a disconnect between my desires and needs, as usual.

I'd say that's an accurate statement. I can't easily disconnect from something I am interested in.

Yes, this experience is very familiar to me.

I can relate, this happens to me a lot when I am engaged in art projects. Last art session I had lasted so many hours my arm went numb all the way up my neck and the next day I could not feel my fingers when I woke up.

It's the flip side of intertia. Interia = hard time getting started, but also a hard time stopping once you have started. I think that's one thing that differentiates it from laziness.

If I didn't have other people living in the house, I think I'd end up asleep hunched over my computer desk or sleeping the floor next to it every night.

I'm like a diesel engine. I'm hard to start but once I'm going I'm even harder to stop.

I notice it a lot especially when something external upsets my daily rhythm; last night my mom was up extra late watching TV and laughing so loud I could hear it clear at the other end of the house across 2 rooms. I took 3 Benadryls and I still felt wired an hour and a half after my normal crash out time.

Yes. Sometimes I'm up and moving all day, everything's stressful and just to calm down I'm reading something or only watching something I like on TV and then I just can't stop, no matter how hard I try and it's getting later and later. And as I stop I still can't stop the thinking, even if I sometimes only seem to have endless conversations with myself about something weird...

Yes this happens to me almost every night....it takes an average of about 1 to 3 hours to fall asleep at night. I just can't turn down my thoughts and go to sleep.....and believe me I know how important sleep is!

This is a problem I frequently experience. I cannot sleep until I feel I have done everything I need/want to on a given day.

I also have a very hard time disconnecting with others.
