People think I faked my diagnosis >_>
Uh... Probably something heard a lot but doe's anyone else have people that completely dismiss your official diagnosis as faked, etc. It's a shame that even family don't even believe believe the official diagnosis

It seems a common reaction, because most of our NT friends only know about SEVERE classical autism. asperger's and HFA are not well-known to the general public, despite the fact some think Asperger's is a fad dx. Which will also cause you problems.
If I say I self dx I get accused of faking it or acting it, if I get an official dx, my NT co-workers will probably think its a mistake.
My close friends were not at all surprised, though. They knew me better than I knew myself!
You know its correct, its official, so that is all that matters in the end, right?
Sincerely,
Matthew
People can only see the outside of you. They cannot see what is going on inside your head.
I am very good at hiding my unusual sensory reactions, my near-panic state in some social situations, etc. And a high IQ will cover up lots of other problems (e.g. you might have executive function problems, but be so intelligent that you can afford to leave most tasks to the last minute, and still get them done well - but you would have performed even better without the executive function problems ... you might be getting a respectable B+ when you should be achieving an excellent A+).
If you get really good at hiding your reactions so that no one else notices them, then they will just assume that you are like them.

Which is why I could never have gotten an official diagnosis growing up in the 1980's.
"Fad" often translates into "made-up".

Yes.

Two of my professors knew before I did.
