First, I'm sorry for opening a lot of topics in a short time, but I have a lot of questions right now. :o

So, sometimes when someone says something, I repeat the words in my head a few times over, and at the same time I make hand motions. I touch the tip of my thumb with that of my index finger, either writing the letters there or just touching them once for each syllable. Or I tap every finger tip on a surface, one for every syllable, and feel kind of satisfied when an entire sentence "fits" on an even number of hands. (Yeah.. that sounds confusing even to me now.)

Can this be considered echolalia? And the finger thing, is that just a stim?

I think you have to repeat the words out loud with your voice for it to qualify, but I really don't know if there is an "in your thoughts" type.

I do similar. Occasionally out loud (in the bath most often, strangely enough), because I don't use my voice that much at all in life..and I'm very aware of coming across as even weirder, but yeah in my head I definitely do. I don't know what specifically makes it echolalia. I presume the reason for thinking/sounding the words is the same.

I looked it up:
Echolalia is the automatic repetition of vocalizations made by another person. It is closely related to echopraxia, the automatic repetition of movements made by another person.
