Tonight I went to Cirque du Soleil - which is rare for me because I never go out in public. I went because my parents invited me and I wanted to do something new.

The crowds were okay and I was handling it fine. Then as the show started the people behind us were kicking my seat and eating popcorn very loudly (excessively loud, no one needs to chew anything with their mouth open so loudly). I turned around and glared, which invited them to lean in and be louder. Through the entire show they were talking, kicking my seat and eating loudly.

The entire time I focused on breathing and zen. I was proud of myself because I didn't:
1. Rage
2. Say anything
3. Leave

I just visualized brutalizing their faces with my hands and then all of the rage and frustration left me.

This was a breakthrough moment for me.

Well, one step at a time I suppose.

I've been in altercations in my life where I ask someone to please stop something rude, they tell me to shove things in places they shouldn't go - and I punch them in the face. So this was a step in the right direction.

It seems you handle the situation well, but I'll bet actually punching them would have been very enjoyable.

I handle people like that by revelling the fact that the world is becoming the kind of place that people such as they are will be the least likely to survive.

The smacking is excruciating, even in a movie theater. Ever hit a quiet spot in a movie? Sounds like termites in a wall. I have seen people smacking away stuffing themselves through entire movies. I don't know if it's the noise itself, or the brainlessness.

I'd like to think that if I enjoyed touching people, I'd want to give you a hug right now. I love that you understand.

Haha, good for you, man! Had a similar experience at a local theater...kids were talking nonstop through a movie and the parents never once told them to be quiet and then one of the little kids, halfway through just turned around in his seat and stared at me for a good five minutes, ha. I think I've pretty much mastered self-control but I felt like knocking myself out on the arm rest before that was over.

Gotta say, well done.
Going thermo nuclear at people in the public events can be a bit bummer, especially for you some time after the event.

I too hate those people to the point that I no longer go to the Cinema, I would always be telling people off behind me, I didn't want to but I could not not tell them !
My wife would dread going with me because I always needed people to follow the rules... Told too many people that if they wanted to talk they should leave... I too never did this in a nice manner, I am over 6 foot and can pull a really nasty snarl when I have too !

You did very well in not smacking them :)
