Ok i i have insomnia. So on 9/7/2012 i woke up at about 8. I take sleeping pills called trazidone. And i havent slept at all since then. It is now 4am on 9/9/2012 so i have been up for 56 hours strait. The reason is when my family moved 3 years ago we had a regular doctor perscribe us trazidone. But now he is saying that he cant and we need to get a peyciatrist or something. I dont know but i do want to know what would my limit be. I only feel the slitest bit drowsy and only for about 1 min every hour. Also what is the world record. If i am not sleeping i should at least have a goal (unless it is rediculos). My mom is getting trazidone on 9/12/2012. What is the human limit. Could this be dangreous (i am to young to drive and dont operaten anything huge). I kind of want to go to sleep but on the other hand... Man vs machins has a ton of open servers :D

Wow that sounds tough! I usually have insomnia but I fall asleep good after a bad night. I would recommend reading or doing some math homework to simply keep your mind busy until you doze off. maybe a warm shower?

Be aware that it can be a symptom of bipolar (manic-depression). Sleep deprivation can cause serious health issues anyway.

Usually after your second wind you will fall asleep for quite a while.

Yeah, I had a friend with Bipolar I, and her first episode consisted of being awake for 3 days and then being hospitalized with psychotic symptoms (manic phase).

Why the delay until Wednesday the 12th? Could she call the doctor you will see then and explain how long you've been without sleep, and get an earlier appt?

To answer your question: the longest anyone has been awake (without any underlying causes) and survived was eleven days straight. It was a voluntary experiment carried out in the 1960's if I remember correctly. One of the highlights of the experiment was that by day eleven the test subject (a young, white male) adamantly believed himself to be a black basketball player. The subject had been suffering from multiple psychotic symptoms in the days leading up to the final day.

I suppose by "underlying causes" you mean drugs such as Crystal Meth right? I think people who do that drug will sometimes, but probably rarely stay awake for a week or two.

I wonder what the drug assisted staying awake record is? lol

Maybe next time you should let the pokemon use TM44 on you rather than the other way around. 8O

The way you describe your thinking is mania. (not a doctor, but chaining, constant thoughts especially rapid in succession is a symptom of a manic episode). I think your doctor wants a psychiatrist to see you to find out why you've been on sleeping pills for a while? Usually they're short term treatment, even for chronic insomnia.

Does your Mom know you have been awake this long? Arm yourself with information and have a talk to her.

PLEASE SEE YOUR DOCTOR OR GO TO EMERG IMMEDIATELY!

Yes, I did mean uppercase letters and mean to be extremely emphatic.

Yes, it sounds like you experiencing mania in response to the 'sleeping pills' - which are actually antidepressants - you may not have been give that information. First episode mania often manifests - or at least manifests so clearly (sometimes it isn't caught or considered earlier) - when taking antidepressants. It doesn't matter if you have taken them before without issue, it only matters as to what is occurring right now.

This is very hard on your health and going without sleep for such a period of time is dangerous - this is very, very hard on your heart, for example. Yes, you can trip into psychosis. Yes, this can put your life at risk. BUT - fortunately you have the insight to post your observations here so I hope while you have your insight intact you will deal with this right now. Being Sunday today - emergency would be your best route. You could also try calling the hospital - ask for the psych ward and explain your situation. I am not kidding - please do not leave this any longer.

The sooner you get on this the better. I've been through this with my eldest son and to a milder extent with my younger - I am talking from first hand concern for your health and safety.

Have a look online if you do not believe me. Please do not hesitate to seek medical advice NOW. Even if it ends up that they (and NOT me) guide you not to take another dose until you see your regular doctor - I cannot give you medical advice nor can I diagnose you - I can only advise you to get some medical advice pronto. Then they can give you professional guidance from there - I would rather hope that they are not too worried and all is well, but I have lived through the worst case scenario. Please take care of yourself and I give you credit for your self awareness.

Best wishes and I hope you will post again to tell us how you made out. LM

You should see your doctor right away.

Eleven days is the record. After a few days it does actually get dangerous. The longest I've stayed up was 5 days. On the third day you'll probably start seeing shadow people. Go to the ER. They will give you something.

There are some safe over the counter meds for it that you might want to ask your mom about. I don't find Trazadone that strong, so I think something like Doxylamine might help you. They have it at Wal Mart.

^^ This ^^ You can actually get sleep deprivation psychosis. Your brain needs sleep. It isn't a luxury.

Wow. I've only got to go one day without having a 20-minute nap and I already get tired by night time. And I roughly sleep about 8-9 hours a night.
