I just am curious about something. Does anyone else touch their own face when they get nervous? I mean you touch your cheeks or mouth or ears and can't stop touching your own face? Just want to know. Or do you know someone who does? What does that mean when a guy just keeps touching his face when their are a lot of people around or when it is noisy? Also he can't help it.

I think this is a fairly well known sign of nervousness across the general population same as e.g. touching/playing with hair.

I know I have a habit of touching my face quite a lot, but I don't think it's specifically to do with nervousness. It's more that I always want my hands to be occupied by something and my face is like a toy or a stress ball that's always within easy reach and rich with interesting features to fiddle with.

I have a tendency to click my fingers when I'm nervous.

Good responses. Glad to see it is not just this one weird person. Now how does one get him to stop. He will also grab things and tie little knots at the ends. He will grab a tissue and rip the ends and roll up the little ends up. He will grab a backpack cord and fold it like an accordion. Any way to get him to stop?

I fiddle a bit sometimes. I think a loads and loads of people do if you watch.

I'm not very nervous generally but my hands like to be busy so I do the concertena thing, tie knots, and I like tearing up tissue paper. I'm cool as a cucumber in meetings and give talks to 200+ people, but my hands need to be busy.

People don't notice that stuff much (playing with a tissue, tying knots in kagool drawstrings, folding business cards), but they do notice when you touch your face and scratch. About once a month I get uncomfortable in my body and twitch, and my partner has to put up with my wriggling on the sofa when we watch films.

I think you can stop touching your face by keeping your hands happy doing something else,

In the winter, I hold a nice wool glove in my hands, other times I have a precious amulet I touch, or I fiddle with a ring I love. That stops me fiddling with my hair too much.

When I get nervous my eyebrows sweat  so I keep wiping them off! I also rub my nose.

I do that exact same thing with tissues and cords!! ! 8O I thought I was the only one... Why do you want him to stop if it helps him?

Yes, I do it too and there is no reason to get someone else to stop. They aren't hurting you and so it really isn't any of your business if they touch their own face when nervous.

Well I am that person. I just want to stop because it is really weird. But I like to tear up tissues into little pieces and roll them up. I am glad someone else does it too. Makes it seem okay.

From the way you parsed it, it read like you were speaking of someone else in the third person. No hard feelings?

I do it a lot. Since rubbing my face, especially my lips, nose, chin, ears, and even smelling my fingers is too obvious to others, I think it really would be better to just fiddle with objects at my hands. Also, it makes my face somewhat itchy (think of germs). It's even more weird when I put one of my arms to my lips and nose and feel the hair, smell the body odor...

Hard feelings toward you ouofplace? Not even. You don't know me but I rarely feel angry toward people. Only hurt. So no harm done. I was just embarrassed that I had that problem.

And thanks for the hug gretchyn. I enjoy them. :P

I've been known to play with my earrings or pick the makeup and skin off of my face, especially my nose. I also like plucking at my eyebrows.

Whenever I get anxious and/or nervous, I have a tendency to pluck my eyebrows
or bite my fingernails.
