Reason for others on the Autism Spectrum to travel.
I hate to travel, but when I do it is always associated with fixation on my love objects. So do you travel for the same reasons I do?
I have always been fixated on backhoe loaders in the most intense way for more than 50 years. But, things really took off after I was able to to find and buy diecast backhoe loader models with my 2 special ones being a John Deer 310B and a Ford 7500 after a series of circumstances. Not sure about the dates other than these are of the 70's and early 80's.
Here is what I got to oprate for 2 days working in a construction type setting. In this picture I was bringing dirt over and smoothing it out for a foundation as if there was a house being built. I have other pictures and movies where I'm digging and trench a digging out a tree. Unfortunately I can't get any of these knockleheads around here to let me operate a backhoe though I was more than happy to pay and sign a waiver. For some reason under the circumstances I'm still very much hurting over this and still become emotional like I am now. This is extremely hard for me to say anything about it. But, I guess that is one of my Aspie traits. Sorry.
Here is me operating this really big backhoe loader. I thought they would have something like a Terramite T5C backhoe loader which is very small for me to operate. But, I much rather be on something like this.

I actually really like to travel - the process is a familiar thing to me and I don't have to speak to anyone while travelling. (I don't like travelling with other people and unless I'm going on holiday with my husband, I always travel alone).
However, much like you, the purpose of my travel is almost always in pursuit of my special interest.

Sorry that this is off topic but have you looked at garden tractors? I know they have loader and backhoe attachments for them. Not as fun as the big guys but still fun. I grew up with a john deere 350 loader and backhoe. I used to carfully remove the topsoil dig a hole and cover it with top plywood so I could put the topsoil back and then use it as a fort. My father wasn't too pleased when the wood stared to rot and my holes caved in.

Actually I do own a small backhoe loader. I got it about a year and a half ago and did some work on it. I get it out once in a while to do work around here and am planning on doing some more work. But that's just it, it seems like just another task that I have to do around here instead of something to have fun with like the big guys where I can have plenty of land to experiment and practice certain things which I love.
Here is my Terramite T5C.

Looks like a nice rig. I grew up on 50 acres in the woods surrounded by woods. I'm now on 3 acres just outside of town so I know what it's like to not have room to play. I assume you've looked around to see if any land owners would let you have some fun in exchange for some property grooming?
You assume right. But, I'm working on a barter type project right now. However, the only equipment this person that owns the recycling company has is 2 excavators which I'm not into. Since I'm an Aspie with a fixation for objects, mainly backhoe loaders, I'm not too thrilled about the barter project.
As strange as it seems you probably don't have a fixation on objects since you are probably an NT and your thought process is that of a normal person. Mine is wired different and if everything don't come together I have some serious issues.
It is just extremely hard to control my emotions sometimes. I had a lot of trouble controlling my emotions when I got the opportunity to operate the CAT 410E backhoe loader, because the construction company that let me do this assured me that the landowner told him it was OK to dig. But, I found it strange that there were no markers anyplace and I dug up some water lines. I was making arrangements to go back down there again to operate a backhoe loader some more. But, I have a feeling that construction company got into trouble over what happened and didn't have anything to do with me. If I have enough sense to call 811 which is a free service to check to see what's under the ground, than a construction company that should have known better should have called instead of assuming.
Another thing that was causing me sensory issues is he told me there are no cell phones allowed, so I left mine at the hotel. And when he was giving me hand signals he got a call on his cell phone and started blabbing while waving his arms around not paying much attention to what I was doing. For crying out loud I was filling in the trench I previously dug. Because I do have sensory issues I protested while I was still on the backhoe doing my thing. The only thing he can say is he was sorry. He should have let his wife take the call since she was there.
Another thing is I was taken out of my comfort zone because I had to sleep in an unfamiliar bed in unfamiliar surroundings and didn't have one of my special backhoe models with me. But, I guess NTs don't really understand this too good. I'm apparently a bit lower on the Autism Spectrum than other Aspies.
What kind do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

Yes, you have a very old backhoe loader with hydraulic cylinders on each side of the main backhoe boom, from the early 1980's. I hope you can get it fixed up OK with a new paint job. You will have something to really be proud of once you get it restored. Not too many of those old guys are still running today but end up in backhoe graveyards or recycled. But, I see a lot of work ahead for you. I hope you don't have to replace any bent rods on your hydraulics, but it sounds like you will probably have to change all of the seals on your hydraulics as well as your hoses.
Of course I was born about 12 years before the first backhoe loaders came on the market and they were very simple than with no cabs, ROPS and other safety devices. I'm not sure when companies were required to start putting safety devices on them and I'm not sure when enclosed cabs were first put on them without researching.
Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you.
