I know for me, shopping there is a necessity but a dreaded one. If there is one place that is visual and auditory overload, that's one of the worst.
Fast moving shopping cart pushers around EVERY corner (you have to stop dead in your tracks to avoid running into), carts being pushed against the flow of all other traffic so you have to dodge out of the way of those. Shoppers oblivious and inconsiderate of other people, just stepping in front of you to grab something. Hordes of screaming kids running and brushing past you, bawling or having a tantrum.
I usually avoid going there unless its slow. Holiday season? Forget it! The same with Malls

It's the same with Tesco. I don't go in there often, but I do when I see my friend because she always has to go in there to do her shopping and I help her carry it home. We cannot do this late at night or early hours of the morning because obviously she wouldn't want to and I can't because I would have to get a bus, and anyway I'm not awake at night. But the point is, I find it stressful in Tesco. People get in my way, but they delibrately make me feel like I'm the one in their way, especially women. They get right up close to me, then snap ''excuse me!'' in a rude voice, and grab what they want. Men usually wait their turn if I'm trying to look for something.

Stupid people, especially women.

you can always have your grocery's delivered. I dont have a walmart within 30 minutes of my home so I never really go to walmart just a medium size grocery store that I go to in off hours to avoid crowds.

I usually go late at night. I think it's awesome that they invented the self-checkout lane.

I often watch these people while I'm there (which is rarely), because they fascinate me. They never seem to actually do any shopping, they just go around and around the store without buying anything. I'm not sure why they are there.

I go to Walmart at 8:30 am before the store becomes very busy and even then it can be too busy. If at all possible I stay away from stores in the afternoons and anytime on weekends.

I wouldn't be caught dead in a Walmart. I won't support their policies.

agreed, places like that are a horror show for the senses, especially if you have to shop at a time of day when all the workers and children are out and about. I prefer to go a smaller walgreens that almost never has more than 3 other customers and maybe 3 workers, if I can get something there or at the almost deserted dollar store, I love that.

I also agree about self check out! Having a short list, earplugs, headphones, and getting the heck out of there without freaking out are the main goals for me personally. a few weeks ago the fire alarms started going off after I walked into the store... I couldn't get out of there fast enough it was like a hatchet directly into my eardrums.

Tell me about it, I was there just yesterday and I can't get over the long line-ups of carts being pushed around. I couldn't enter the store right away because of it, and when I was waiting to take the bus home next to the store with a group of people a guy with another enormous train of carts is pushing tells all of us to move so he can get buy. I've only started seeing this recently and do they really NEED that many carts?

When I was a kid I loved going to the malls. In the country where I grew up there were hardly even any stores and you couldn't go anywhere half-decent without a car, so going shopping almost anywhere was like going to Disneyland. But that was when we had Woolco instead of Wal-Mart, and video arcades, and a lot more "fun" stores that sold toys and hobbies and pets and novelties. Now it's mostly stupid, boring expensive clothing stores for anorexics. :x

I feel the same way. I usually do most my grocery shopping at Trader Joe's mainly because it's a small store. I loathe going to Meijer for the same reasons. In fact, I avoid a lot of big stores and the mall unless I need to go. If I do need to go I try to go later in the evening since it's not as busy. Friday and Saturday evenings are a good time to go. I can get in and out much faster without as much fuss and overload.

Can't stand Walmart. The people there all look and act like they got hit with a "mutant ray". They are all so brainless, because the food they are buying is what's doing it to them and they don't even notice.

I avoid big supermarkets. With the crisis and the massive sackings, you have only 5 check out operators instead of 25. But I don't feel overwhelmed there.

It's different when I'm on malls and clothing shops. The compulsive women messing up the clothes on hangers and shelves, the strong music and the sickly-sweet smell of dyes make me feel really uncomfortable.

Hi,
I Find going in the middle of the night (early morning) is the best, the Asda (Walmart) near me is open 24 Hrs. All you have to worry about it tripping over the rubbish in the aisles.

I guess I do know better than to go mid-morning :P. I'll probably change up to an early morning foray, and a quick exit ;).
